Where can I buy heavy whipping cream?

I'm making a whipped cream frosting. So need a whipping cream that has a high fat content. Would any supermarket whipping cream do? Do I need just whipping cream or the extra thick variety?

I'm going to add gelatine to stabilise it, by the way.

Thanks in advance!

any double cream or whipping cream should be fine. not the extra thick ones though

Isn't heavy cream what double cream is called in america .

So is all whipping cream double cream if not go for the extra thick whipping cream

Whipping cream is the in the UK is the same fat content as heavy whipping cream in US recipes. Double cream has a higher fat content so would be harder to pipe but would be fine otherwise.

Most supermarkets sell whipping cream that had a fat content of about 30-odd% I think. Double cream has a higher fat content, nearly 50%. Both will whip, infact it is possible to overwhip double cream and make it too firm.

Is it an American recipe? In which case whipping cream is the closest we have to American heavy cream

It's this recipe.

Thanks for your replies. So I should go for whipping cream instead of double cream? I'm going to freeze the cake after frosting it. Should I still go for whipping cream?

Thank you so much.
