Due to have DD christened later this morning her soon to be godmother has had an emergency and can’t attend, she only had one GM and one GF not sure what to do now. It would be rude to ask someone to stand in last minute so do we just go ahead with one godparent?

You can ask someone to stand in just for the actual christening, not to take over as godparent. It what I had to do at dd’s as one of her godfathers couldn’t make it.

If it's Catholic I think one will do.

You can have someone stand in for her at the ceremony, she can still be godmother! That's what my sister did, twice, when godparents couldn't attend because they were overseas.

Have a lovely day.

At my DC1's (Catholic) christening I had a proxy stand in as her actual godmother couldn't be there. It was fine.

I didn’t know that! A proxy is perfect I’ll ask SIL if she’ll do it thanks so much everyone

I didn’t manage to make my nephews christening (term time, other side of the world) but am still his godmother.

40 years ago 2 of my godparents didn’t make my christening as they were missionaries abroad
