Anyone regret moving house?

Just that really. We’re upsizing but like where we are currently. Anyone regretted their move? If so why?

Yes!

We moved a few miles away so that we could buy a reasonably sized house. It was awful, the area felt so different and we could no longer walk to school, shops, favourite park etc.

We sold it and are now back renting in our old area. So so so happy.

What are your worries / what are the compromises you'll be making?

I’m just risk averse Grin and just wondering if there’s anything I’m forgetting to think about as part of our decision.

I’d been house hunting for ages and couldn’t find anything in the place I wanted (was staying with friends). Finally found something in my second choice village and snapped it up. There was nothing wrong with the house itself, but I had really noisy neighbours and I felt horribly isolated because I didn’t know anyone. Nowhere useful was within walking distance so I had to drive everywhere. I sold up in the end and moved into rented. No regrets but it has taught me a lesson about holding out for the right house in the right location, even if that means a long wait. And really thinking about what you want from your local area.

Thank you, food for thought. It’s taken me 18 months to find this one.

I bloody hope not! Hate where we are now and are desperate to sell and move, so if we regret it, it would have to be pretty awful Confused

I regret buying a house as big as we did, then having no money to do what we want to it.

But I love where we live, and like the house

We downsized and regretted it, then upsized in a different and cheaper area. I knew no one here at all and really had to make an effort to get out and about, but we loved the house.

Five years later, we’ve made a life here and it’s near the sea, transport links to good places and convenient for shops. Neighbours are friends.

I've moved a lot, always been ok each time...apart from once. I found I had a controlling, nosey, interfering neighbour who thought he was in charge of the road.
I had to move, after doing a great deal of work on the property and within 18 months I had gone after making a good profit. It was very uncomfortable living there at the time though.

The financial commitment really scares me but it’s a lovely house.
