Weighted blankets for adults?

Dontcomeinmygarden · 11/05/2019 20:06

I struggle with depression/anxiety/ PTSD and am interested in getting a weighted blanket. Has anyone used one as an adult, did it help? And where did you buy it from?

Me too!

Me too. I have terrible insomnia caused by the menopause and I wonder if one of these would help.

I bought one from Amazon. I was super lucky. It was £90 but turned up wet and mouldy! So obviously promptly sent it back and left a bad review. The next day the manufacturer got in touch with me and offered me a free replacement along with the refund from amazon. So it cost me nothing in the end. This is the one I got:

I’ve been sleeping under it for about a week now. It is amazing. I suffer from all sorts of sleep issues. I have restless legs and it’s sorted that right out. I also have anxiety and it just really makes me feel calm and relaxed. I had been having menopausal night sweats, but the blanket is actually quite cool and so helps with that.

I sleep with a cotton sheet on top of me, and the weighted blanket on top of that. Personally, I would recommend it.

Two people I know bought one (each!). Both said they were fab and really worked. Better, deeper sleep, less twitching and restlessness.

How strange. There was a thread about this a couple of days ago.

My friend's DS (9) has autism and is very fidgety at night, not a good sleeper at all. She bough a weighted blanket for him and it's really helped.

They seem like a lot of money to take the risk. I hate feeling trapped so I'm not sure they'd help me sleep.

I have seen these used to good effect. A lot of people find them soothing and reassuring

I have one and love it. The only thing I have found is that it's a bit too cool for me at night, so I have a thin fleece blanket and then put the weighted blanket on top. It was a bit of a gamble, but I wouldn't be without it now

We got one for ds because he has asd. Then I got one from a danish supermarket. I no longer feel exhausted when I wake up, although waking up is REALLY hard now.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/03/2020 13:00

I have no diagnosis but suspect asd.

Pebbles16 · 17/03/2020 13:03

I have one, helps hugely with anxiety and insomnia

Jupiters · 17/03/2020 16:18

I have a Koala one, which I'd really recommend.
