Anyone recommend a dance movie suitable for a 12 y.o?

She wanted to watch Footloose but common sense media reviews have put me off.
Not sure if Flashdance is better?

Anything more recent?
She loves modern freestyle type dance and pop music.

TIA

Footloose is fine for 12 yo surely? Both versions.

youarenotkiddingme · 11/05/2019 20:47

Save the last dance was my suggestion!

Strictly ballroom.

What's wrong with Footloose though? Or Flashdance?

Fame
West Side Story
Singing in the Rain
Anything with Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers in it

OK the last 3 are pretty old but the dancing is amazing.
At a tangent - check out films by Busby Berkley - he did lots of films with the most amazing synchro swimming

You do realise she's a stripper in Flashdance?! Most of the dancing takes place in a strip club. Doesn't something happen to one of her friends as well?

Never seen footloose so can't comment.

I used to love Grease when I was younger. Even the second one!

Likethebattle · 11/05/2019 21:12

Strictly ballroom and the cutting edge which is ice skating.

lucysnowe2 · 11/05/2019 21:17

An oldie I know but The Red Shoes is brilliant :)

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 11/05/2019 21:21

fatted was she? I've not seen it for years, so I stand corrected. I thought I remembered her being a welder and waitress 😁
Greece however is all about them want in to shag each other, building a pussy wagon and Rizzo possibly being pregnant and not knowing who the father was.

Girls just wanna have fun with Sarah Jessica Parker.
I LOVED that movie when I was a preteen!
It’s ace Grin

PoptartPoptart · 11/05/2019 22:09

And the brilliant Helen Hunt is in Girls just wanna have fun too...
I think I might need to watch it again myself lol

InABigCountry · 11/05/2019 22:11

I love Strictly Ballroom too.

MargotMoon · 11/05/2019 22:15

I expect I'm the only person who will recommend BREAKDANCE THE MOVIE but I think it's a masterpiece and have done since I was 10 Grin

SofiaAmes · 11/05/2019 22:21

Billy Elliot, Strictly Ballroom, japanese movie Shall We Dance (if the 12 year old is mature - no sex, but slow moving), Saturday Night Fever, Singing in the Rain, any of the Step Up movies

stanski · 11/05/2019 22:24

Not sure which is PG13 but in general good dance movies..

Save the Last Dance
Footloose
Honey
Dirty Dancing (?)
Bring it on
Street Dance
You got served
Step Up
Flashdance
Grease

stanski · 11/05/2019 22:26

@MargotMoon I second Breakdance the movie too (again not sure if it's a PG13 or not) but it's good!

DuffBeer · 11/05/2019 22:52

I also watched Dirty Dancing way before I was 12.

I don't remember being shocked by the sex bits (it's very tame) and I didn't understand the abortion bit at all, that went right over my head.

Coyoacan · 12/05/2019 04:51

Dirty Dancing

I'm sure my dd was about twelve when she first watched it and she loved it. It's still one of my favourite films

Eviecee · 13/05/2019 17:20

Both versions of Footloose are fine for a 12yo in my opinion.

Breakdance the Movie is an ace film. I also loved the sequel 'Breakdance 2: Electric Boogaloo'

Nameusernameuser · 13/05/2019 17:32

The bring it on moves are amazing. They're about cheerleading rather than dance but I still love them now!!
