Is there an easy way to remove paint from screws?

I have an old toy box that I use as storage in my bedroom. When the girls were little, I painted it pink. But I painted over the screws.

Is there an easy way to take it off them (I'll unscrew them first - but not all at once!) with something I might already have in the house?

I don't particularly want to spend money if I don't need to.

White spirit on a cotton bud?

moreismore · 11/05/2019 16:23

It’d sand or scratch off I’d think...

Chisel it off with a screwdriver?

Nail varnish remover on a cotton bud?

Pour white spirit into an egg cup and drop the screws into it for a few minutes.

Screw the screws half a turn tighter so that it breaks the paint between screw and wood. Take screws out then soak the heads in white spirit. Paint shouldn't chip on the box this way

Oh sorry, I thought they were off! That'll teach me to read too quickly!

@HollowTalk, they'll be coming off but not all at the same time I don't think (although the box has been painted that long the paint might hold together!).

I'll check the shed in the morning for white spirit, it looks like it's going to tip it down out there & I don't want to get wet. If not, I'll try sanding & nail varnish remover.
