Hello,
I am organising a talent show for a community event. Most people will know each other. It’s quite low tech. I am the MC. It’s a family event.

How can I make it fun? Clapometer? Have little skits in between the acts? Does anyone who has done this sort of thing for scouts got any ideas? Even for catch phrases I could get the audience to say together when an act has finished?

Help! TIA

When my DD did a gym show, they used to play Heads or Tails. Participants paid £1 to enter, put their hands on their head or bottom, MC tossed a coin and the losers had to sit down. Continue until only one left. Winner got half the money, and gym club the other half. Needn't do it for money though.
Could put pictures of celebrities on the wall, possibly of when they were children, and give everyone an answer sheet. Prize for the winner.

Play a spontaneous improvisation game between sets. Get two 'willinging' volunteers up and give them different starter lines and they just have to make the scene up. Here are some ideas:

  • I have lost my glasses
  • Where's your homework?
  • What time do you call this?
  • How long have you been sitting outside the headmaster's office?

Play the park bench game.
Set up four chair and tell the audience they are a park bench.
Two people have to be sat there at any one time.
They must have a reason to be in the park and a reason to leave.
A third person can enter and when they do the first person can leave.

A quiz about the community group?
