Cheese on toast

I’ve just watched something that has made me question if I’m missing something!
When I make cheese on toast I toast the bread, top it with grated cheese and put it under the grill to melt the cheese and then sprinkle on some Worcestershire sauce.
However this person grated cheese on to a plate and microwaved it for 20-30 secs and then spread the cheese on a slice of toast with a knife.
I thought it would be an abomination but actually tasted exactly the same as mine. Does anyone else do it like this? I could see it handy if you had toaster and microwave at work but no grill.

I toast one side. Then add grated cheese that I’ve added a tablespoon of milk to and spread over untoasted side then grill. Salt and pepper to Tate. Scrumptious.

Surely it's a lot more difficult to handle gloopy sticky melted cheese than to get it in place before it's cooked?

I chop up cheese into a bowl, microwave it 20/30 seconds at a time til its melted. in the meantime toast bread as normal with toaster. spread melted cheese on the toast, sorted.

I don't have a grill so works for me

@lubeybooby I have also done this and put cheese into a little bowl then can pour the cheese on and spread, but it's usually if I want to make a quick toastie 😂

I saw on that factory programme that to make it taste really good you ought to use white bread, toast both sides, butter the bread, add the cheese and then toast again. I tried it and it tasted no different.

IncrediblySadToo · 11/05/2019 11:24

I make it the same way as Blue just posted.

I have never tried it done like that in a bowl and spread. I like to see it bubbling under the grill.

At home I would toast bread in toaster, put slices of cheese on top and melt under grill. At work we only have access to a toaster and a microwave, so I was confused when someone one night offered me cheese on toast. He toasted bread in the toaster, melted cheese in the microwave and put cheese on toast. I was very sceptical but it worked. It wasn't as nice as normal grilled cheese on toast but it was ok.

I toast both sides of the bread. Then spread a little butter and put sliced cheese on and sprinkle with Worcester sauce. The cheese has to go right to the very edges of the toast to stop it getting burnt.

Wow - I never thought of doing that either. I do same method as you. I love dipping it in ketchup is that weird or do other so this too?

Eminybob · 11/05/2019 12:34

I do it under the grill but slice the cheese rather than grate as I hate grating cheese (no idea why, it’s one of my worse jobs, I always get DH to do it)

We don’t have a microwave but even when we did I would never have imagined doing it that way.
