Ideas for UK tour

I'd like to take DD who will be 5 soon for a week away in August. Travelling abroad during that month is unlikely to be affordable so I thought maybe we could spend a week driving around UK (probably just England and perhaps Wales?) staying in cheap hotels and visiting local attractions along the way. Does this sound like something a 5-year-old would enjoy? Or would driving a few hours every day or two be too much?

Any recommendations would be appreciated too Grin

@AllStar14 try some of the single parent holiday sites - lots of them have short UK breaks that cost a lot less than the Haven ones!

single with kids UK hols link for you Smile. I am going on our first one this year as people seem to think they are pretty good!

I am gobsmacked by the Haven prices! inlaws treated us and I was perhaps not as greatful as I should have been!

Have you looked at the budget chain hotels? The premier Inn in Weymouth is in a great location but you could try the Travelodge in Poole as it's slightly less touristy but you'd still have good access to the local attractions.

Consider air b&b too there are loads of self catering apartments in Bournemouth.

Go to the Isle of Wight for a week. Lovely beaches, cheaper than many areas, beautiful countryside, crabbing, mackerel fishing, open top buses, small theme parks, the playhouse at Osborne, the donkeys at Carisbrook castle. Even the ferry is exciting.

I'm so glad I posted as there's some amazing ideas here, thank you.

I'd agree completely with CherryPavlova - was distracted when writing this earlier so hadn't posted:
do a tour of the Isle of Wight - travel over via Portsmouth to Ryde, visit the beaches Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor get some coloured sand in a bottle, visit the steam railway or other attractions, go fishing or crabbing, go see the Needles, then take the ferry back to Lymington from Yarmouth, and drive through the New Forest to spot a few ponies and donkeys & then home.
