Does your bed have a headboard?

I'm decorating my room (at last!) and can't decide whether I need, or want, the headboard back on my bed.

If yours doesn't have one, does it feel weird?

Yes, mine has a headboard. It is made of wood so I only rest up against it with a very large square pillow rested against it. But I think beds look wrong and studenty without a headboard.

SmellMySmellbow · 10/05/2019 21:16

Yes, a giant padded one that I made and I'm very proud of.

DeadDoorpost · 10/05/2019 21:17

We've got a barred headboard. And footboard.

Not for kinky reasons.

But it helps. 😉

Yes, I like to rest my back on it and read in bed.

DoomOnTheBroom · 10/05/2019 21:19

We also have a barred headboard and footboard, also not originally for kinky reasons but smut happens Wink

FreeFreesia · 10/05/2019 21:19

Yes. Last bed didn't have one but had a shelf (part of fitted wardrobes) that stabbed you through a pillow if sitting up. A wall is too cold/hard.

Totaldogsbody · 10/05/2019 21:20

Yes I've had beds with no headboard and my pillows always fell down the back of the bed during the night, but then I'm a restless sleeper.

DramaAlpaca · 10/05/2019 21:20

Yes, all ours do. We all like to prop pillows up against them so we can read in bed. I think beds look & feel weird without a headboard.

TooLateToDrinkCoffee · 10/05/2019 21:22

I thought we didn't, but apparently we do. Too engrossed in other things to care, clearly.

PinkieTuscadero · 10/05/2019 21:22

Beds without headboards look a bit sad.

Eustasiavye · 10/05/2019 21:23

Yes I think going by this thread it might be a barred one plus one at the base of the bed too ☺

Strandliv · 10/05/2019 21:24

Beds without headboards look studenty.

SilverGoldBronze · 10/05/2019 21:27

I need a headboard. Much more comfy to sit up and read in a bed with a headboard than one without. Plus, I don’t think beds look ‘finished’ without them.

I have a barred headboard. It has multiple uses. Grin

Justkeeprollingalong · 10/05/2019 21:28

Beds need headboards 🛌

floraloctopus · 10/05/2019 21:29

Yes, it's solid oak and has a head and foot board. I love it as I can sleep at whichever end i feel like.

OldAndWornOut · 10/05/2019 21:31

I have a bedframe, so I have metal bars at the top and bottom of my bed.
Not for kinky purposes, obviously... but, well...

CherryPavlova · 10/05/2019 21:31

Sleigh bed. Not a headboard as such but something to rest pillows against.

meow1989 · 10/05/2019 21:32

Yes. The bed in our room has a deep headboard with shelving in the sides and books on top. The one in the guest room only has a simple wooden one. I find that when I sleep somewhere without a headboard you inevitably lose pillows down the back of the bed.

supadupapupascupa · 10/05/2019 21:32

Barred head and footboard certainly for kinky reasons.

lucysmam · 10/05/2019 21:32

Hah, the headboard will probably stay after seeing these responses. I want it to look & feel nice in there, not studenty!

I don't tend to read in bed, I have my big chair in the living room for that, but I don't want to lose my pillows down the back of it. It was incredibly dusty back there when I moved the bed this morning Blush

No, but that isn't unusual in France. Not sure why leaning your head against a wooden headboard would be more comfortable than a wall.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 10/05/2019 21:38

Headboards are necessary for breakfasting, reading and should be able to withstand at least 100Nm of transient force.

Also if you don't have a headboard the wall becomes disgusting.

PinkieTuscadero · 10/05/2019 21:40

Yes I think the wall would get grimy if you were leaning your head against it.

sweettalkingwoman · 10/05/2019 21:45

We don’t have a headboard.
When we moved into our first home 9 years ago, we bought a divan bed. Headboard was extra £££ and we’d already paid enough for a good quality bed&matress...
Have never ever missed having a headboard, stay in hotels regularly and can’t say We notice any difference being in a bed with a headboard HmmGrin
Our bedroom doesn’t look at all studenty either Confused

SimonJT · 10/05/2019 21:48

No, it did have one but I was sick of stuffing pillows behind it or moving the bed away from the wall.
