The 2 big football games coming

Why don’t those who are in charge just say, it’s all teams from England why don’t we just hold the games at Wembley?

Baku in particular is hours and hours away plus the massive cost.

Also why are the allocation of tickets so small?

Two words FIFA corruption

Afrikan · 10/05/2019 19:02

Well, did anyone know that the finalists will be all English team? No

It's European championships. Not England

Logistics. Planning. Sharing hosting etc. Pretty simple really

Afrikan · 10/05/2019 19:03

Allocation is not small. Same would've been given Ito any other team. It means everyone other football fan can get access.

Of course no one knew who would get to the final. I’m not stupid!

Just seems completely daft to send people thousands of miles on flights and trains etc when there is a perfectly good stadium along the road. The London teams in particular.

TheCaddy · 10/05/2019 19:08

I’m not English by the way, I’m Scottish and couldn’t give a rats arse about football. Rugby all the way!

Because the selection process takes ages and the money spent by the winners of the finals is and quite a lot of tickets have already been sold via corporate

Afrikan · 10/05/2019 19:12

Right Confused

JeonJungkook · 10/05/2019 19:40

Wembley stadium is also already booked on the day of the Champions League final. BTS are playing two sell-out concerts there that weekend.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 10/05/2019 19:46

These things are planned in years and years in advance.

Actually for the the first time ever, hosts were selected by an open bidding process. Just to show how long in advance these dicisions were made this process was started 2016 to select the venues of the
finals. The national assocations had until 27 January 2017 to express interest, and bids must be submitted by 6 June 2017.
Just as a matter of intetest as your scottish OP one of the assocciations that expressed an interest but ultimately decided not to bid for the Europa final was Scotland and hampden park. Insidently the game that is being playes in Baku, so maybe its your FAs fault that chelsea amd arsnal fans are having to travel thosends of miles.

There would be a massive finacial implications of suddenly not being the hosts the games. Holding these games cost millions, the spanish and azabajani FA's havd already spent millions in the bidding process, preparing for the games, the security needed to host these games. We're honestly talking probably running in to to the tens of thousend-millions. You think it would be ok just to go oh well never mind we'll take the game away from you at less than a months notice??? Now that would be daft. Tbh scandalous

Wemberly might not avilable for those nights. (It probably is but thats not the point) as in they would never have been expecting to hold two major finals on those days so may have booked charity games, concerts, conferences in its conference amd hospitality suites so what their meant to cancel those events thst could have been booked for years themselves. Again that would be daft.

Wemberly held

Al2O3 · 10/05/2019 19:48

Spaghetti bolognese...yum yum

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 10/05/2019 19:50

Sorry didnt finish.

Didn't wemebly hold one of the finals a few years back.

Wembley stadium is also already booked on the day of the Champions League final. BTS are playing two sell-out concerts there that weekend probably the biggest band in the world at the moment i cant imagine the uproar if a gig thats been planned, sold tockets for, was cancelled at such short notice or the cist cancelling such a gig would cost wemebly

MockerstheFeManist · 10/05/2019 19:54

Two words: FIFA corruption

Point of Order: It's UEFA, and as with Chelsea and ManU going to Moscow, it is not logistically possible to change the venue at this late stage. Madrid is a suitable venue.

Baku, otoh, is a combination of petrodollars buying a final for a country whose only meaningful contribution to the game was the linesman in 1966, and the sheer arrogant couldn't give a toss attitude to fans among the Gods of Football Olympus.

Maybe Roman Imveryrich will stump up for some charter flights. The Yank who owns Arsenal would rather pull his own teeth than not make money out of it.

TheCaddy · 10/05/2019 19:57

It doesn’t have to be Wembley, it could have been any more local ground.

I had no idea about the bidding process so sorry about that but these grounds don’t really need prep time do they? No idea why they don’t announce the winning stadium after the final 2 teams are announced. As an example Wembley couldn’t hold it but may be Twickenham is free or Old Trafford. Totally take onboard what you say though Naught. Makes sense albeit it seems to be more for corporate and fat cats rather than result football fans.

And, I have no idea who BTS are!

TheCaddy · 10/05/2019 19:57

Not result, real.

OP posts:
HiHoToffee · 10/05/2019 20:02

Baku is also hosting some of the Euro 2020 matches

Ticket allocation is all to do with money. Corporate business is worth a lot more than loyal fans

Money before football

MockerstheFeManist · 10/05/2019 20:06

Emirates or the new White Hart Lane would be good enough, but please not Twickenham. It is the cabbage patch it always was. Even Rugby League refuse to play there because it's so bad.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 10/05/2019 20:08

Yes they do beed time to prep, they need security briefings, staff rotas, stwearding services, hispitslity services, catering professionals, waiting staff, stewarding staff, local police force services, ticketting, marketting. All of these things a) take time b) cost a shed load of money.

Even when a normal fixture is posponed, its not suddenly rearranged for the following week, it can be months. And tje cost of doimg so is enoumous.

These are the national statiums so no it couldnt just be played at old trafford. Twickenham prephaps provided that twickenham didnt have any concerts, conferences or rugby games already booked. Provided that the RFU felt like renting twickenham too the FA, providing that FA felt that the rent was a reasonable cost, providing that the Met police were happy that the ground had the necessary safety and security, and they had enough police to provide the services to the game, Nd most of all provided that uefa approved the vennue. Which of course it provably wouldn't it being errm a RUGBY Ground.

WatcherintheRye · 10/05/2019 20:10

BTS seem to be a boy band. I am truly shocked by my out-of-touchness if they are currently the biggest band in the world and playing two sell-out Wembley concerts, because I have never heard of them!!

HiHoToffee · 10/05/2019 20:10

Arsenal and Chelsea's charter flight is £979 apparently...

MockerstheFeManist · 10/05/2019 20:14

Very Creepy Korean K-Pop, a seemingly infinite conveyor belt of identical clones all nearer thirty than twenty but dressing and acting like they're fifteen.

HiHoToffee · 10/05/2019 20:14

And playing at Wembley (or any other stadium) wouldn't solve the low ticket allocation

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 10/05/2019 20:16

Just to illistrate how much arranging a game costs and the implications of moving venues or posponing or selecting venues at short notice.

Take the very situation of bolton wanderers, they nearly had to call at least one game off because they couldn't afgord to pay for the safety inspection thats required every single game nor to pay the police to police the game something that is required in law, in fact one of their debts is a massive policing bill. When eventuslly the players cracked after watching their collegues on the non playing staff not being paid for pretty much the whole season, and they weren't paid and refused to play, bolton had no choice but to pospone the game. A game that they never fulfilled. Costing them a massive samction by the FA.

Now we're talking millions for boltom wanderers a club just relegated in to league one, can you imagine the cost of rearranging a game of the magnitude of the two uefa finals - thosends or millions of pounds/euros

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 10/05/2019 20:19

Oh on BTS they are weird and shite but theres a hystra over K pop atm and partically BTS

God knows why

JeonJungkook · 10/05/2019 20:30

Well, not creepy or identical at all if you are into them (and yes, hugely successful!)

Quartz2208 · 10/05/2019 20:39

THecaddy it simply cant be move - think of all the contracts that have been signed in order to set this all up and the sheer cost involved.

There are two separate finals - Madrid is a brilliant venue but the spanish association would be up in arms. Spurs are considering showing the match live on the screen in their stadium and selling tickets there

Baku is an intresting but given where it is fans getting there must have been considered given the likelihood that they would be coming from the UK/Spain/Italy/Germany it must have been taking into account when giving it to them. Can you imagine how they would feel if suddenly it was taken away
