Aches all over, nausea, headache and feeling faint and my temperature is 38°c, is that likely to be flu? It came out of nowhere and I don't have a runny nose at all or cough.

It's hot where I am and I was out for the day, but it started on the way there.

Now lying down at home, have taken a paracetamol and my head still hurts a lot and I ache, even my buttocks ache. But it's manageable if I don't move.

Have I got flu? I had a flu shot in the autumn.

Could be. Are you certain it's not dehydration?

BirdandSparrow · 10/05/2019 18:52

It could be I suppose but I wasn't in the heat really when it came on.

Sounds like virus...yeah that old cover-all.

Heatstroke. You should really get yourself checked out.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 10/05/2019 18:55

My mother says that you know if it’s flu if you wouldn’t go to the bottom of the garden for a £50 note.
I think this might say more about how little £50 is to her, mind.

BirdandSparrow · 10/05/2019 18:58

Can flu come on that suddenly though? It's hot here, but I live here, I'm not on holiday. And I wasn't particularly in the sun when it started. It came over me quite quickly.

Matches to some nhs site flu symptoms but with no sore throat/cold type symptoms I’d keep an open mind to it being something else.

Definitely sounds nasty. Are you with someone who can keep an eye on you and bring you lots of fluids?

BirdandSparrow · 10/05/2019 19:01

It was quite the struggle getting back from where we were on public transport just me and the dcs but they're primary age and were very good. They're watching tv and dh will be back shortly. I am lying on the sofa. My head hurts and I feel all burny and achey but ok if I just lie here. Nausea and faintness gone

Paracetamol, ibuprofen and strip off and get your temperature down and keep your fluid intake up, most important things whatever it is, especially in a hot country. Hope you feel better soon, hugs xx

Gunpowder · 10/05/2019 19:12

You aren’t breastfeeding are you? Sounds like mastitis if so.

Gunpowder · 10/05/2019 19:14

Would also consider it could be a uti. Especially if you have tummy or back ache. Sad hope you feel better soon OP.

Tofslan · 10/05/2019 19:15

Have you checked yourself against sepsis/meningitis symptoms? No breathing issues or strange looking skin? (I’m NOT a medical person just a panicker and I always check DCs or me to the list if we ever get suddenly ill! Mainly to reassure me that it’s not an emergency and we can just concentrate on the rest and fluids.)

Sounds like the nausea/faintness could be a red herring if gone already - maybe an anxiety reaction to suddenly feeling ill when out with children?

Glad your DH home soon anyway - such a horrible feeling being ill and having to look after DCs.

BirdandSparrow · 10/05/2019 19:15

Not breastfeeding and absolutely not pregnant either. I think it's probably a virus

OP posts:
BirdandSparrow · 10/05/2019 19:16

Yes I think the faintness and nausea was partly thinking fuuuuuuck, what do I do now.

OP posts:
BirdandSparrow · 10/05/2019 19:17

No breathing problems or weird skin

Rangeloaf · 10/05/2019 19:18

Flu would have a higher temperature. Probably just a virus. It’s not unusual is it?

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 10/05/2019 19:21

Viruses can strike very quickly. I wouldn't worry. I've got one at the moment... Headache, sore throat and extremely tired. Just take it easy on bed and you should feel better soon.

lolaflores · 10/05/2019 19:21

Flu can start without any warning. One minute your ok and the next you are floored.

BirdandSparrow · 10/05/2019 19:25

Temp is only 38, do hopefully it's just a virus rather than flu. Just surprised how floored I was so quickly. Ds says his throat hurts so may be we're all incubating something
