How do you get smells out of second hand sofa?

Just bought a second hand sofa. It doesn't smell terrible but it smells strongly of someone else's house and a bit unpleasant and I find it really off putting. You definitely can't wash the seat covers. I've tried hoovering it and sprinkled it with baking soda then hooveref that off but it made no difference. What else can I do? It's driving me mad.

Your best bet would be to air out the cushions outside in the sun. Could the fabric handle being steam cleaned?

Have it professionally steam cleaned? We sometimes get flyers through the door with cheap offers. You can also hire upholstery cleaners at our local Morrisons, no idea of cost.

Upholstery cleaner, Febreeze

I had this happen with a sofa I bought on eBay. Hasn’t realised the seller smoked.

I sprayed (a lot) of febreze and this did the trick.

More bicarb than you think (needs to look lol an episode of narcos!) and fresh air. The bicarb needs to be on for a day or so too. You could put some tea tree oil on cotton balls and cover it in those too. On top of the bicarb. Let the oil absorb into the balls first so it doesn't stain the sofa.
