Suspected meningitis

Posting here in the hope of more people seeing.....

Ds4 was admitted to hospital Tuesday evening with suspected meningitis.
It was quite scary, high temp that wouldn't respond to medicine, headache, cold hands and feet, looking at me in a daze like he wasn't with it, he wouldn't let me touch him, crying and whimpering whilst sleeping, shaking quite bad, and non blanching spots.
Gp gave him an antibiotic injection before we left for hospital.
His bloods came back as showing some kind of infection but nothing on the cultures- maybe because of the antibiotic injection so they have sent his bloods for further testing.
By yesterday he seemed back to his usual self, they have allowed him home today but hes to return daily for iv antibiotics.
Because he seems so fine I'm wondering if it's over cautious, obviously I don't know what he would be like without the antibiotics though.
Has anyone else been through similar? Did the tests come back positive even after a speedy recovery? We noticed a huge improvement even after the first shot of antibiotics.
Although he was very poorly Tuesday it seems hes not poorly enough for it to be meningitis!

I’m sorry, no experience that I can help with but Flowers for your little one, hope he continues to recover well.

We had the exact same thing with ds when he was 2, even down to the non blanching rash. We returned daily for iv antibiotics but it was pretty clear quite early on that he was ok. They continued anyway until the results came back, which were thankfully clear.
