Postal redirection.

Miljah · 10/05/2019 17:56

Our neighbours have moved a few miles away. They set up a postal redirection, and, as we said it was fine, left s note for the new, unseen neighbours to give any post to us to redirect.

Today they gave me 6 letters and a small package from Next containing 3 pairs of baby socks.

Can I bundle them all up in a see-through plastic bag and put a sticker on it with 'no longer at this address, please direct to:' on it?

Do you have contact details for them? Could you contact them to come and collect them

I don’t think so but maybe just ask at the post office. I used to give Mail for previous residents to the estate agent to deal with (though I didn’t have a forwarding address).

If they set up a proper redirection, why is post arriving at their former address?

Rememberallball · 10/05/2019 18:46

Postal redirection usually starts I thin 5 days of being set up so, either your old neighbour has only just moved/got round to setting it up or the new neighbours have just not passed on the items. If you have the new address I do put a label over the old address and write their new address on it and state “Please Redirect” on it. If you don’t have the new address to redirect to I’d simply put not at this address and put back in the post.

MIL still redirects the very occasional item DH gets at her house with a specially printed redirect label and he hasn't lived there for 20 odd years!

I'd just redirect everything to the new address separately - you've done your best.

You can put a sticker on each letter with your message. Not sure about bundling it all up together.

Thanks, all. I do have their new address, they left about 10 days ago, have a postal direct set up, but I think the new people have, understandably hung onto the non-redirected incoming mail for a few days. They've just moved in, they're busy!
