I’ve no idea where my cat poops.

We have a cat flap and he saunters outside occasionally. I presume he poops out there. But I have no idea where he actually goes.
I’m always seeing people on here talking about cats pooing in their own garden, or the neighbours garden or the flower beds, and the angst it causes.
Don’t cats bury it? Are they doing it on the patio? How do you know where they go?
So as not to drip feed he does wander in my neighbours house and garden, but they adore him and have never complained about him pooping there. He doesn’t really go anywhere else.

They're definitely planning something Yet.

It should be going in the litter tray you provide, OP.

Unfortunately cats don't really care what they should be doing!

The only way not to get cat poo in your garden is to get a cat! We used to get loads
We've got 2 cats and our neighbours cat craps in our garden all the time! (And has been known to come and poop in the house , not in the litter tray!!) No idea where our cats go. They have a litter tray but they hate using it. If we have to shut them in fir any reason I'm sure they just hold in until they can go out.

I sympathise about your DD’s planter but unfortunately newly planted tubs - with lovely soft freshly dug soil - will always attract cats.

Contrary to official feline law one of my cats used to crap in my pots (even though they all have nice litter trays indoors). I dissuaded her eventually by covering the compost with big stones, bits of slate, pointy sticks etc. Not pretty but nicer than cat poo.

Also there is spiky plastic mesh you can lay across the soil - that worked too but is more fiddly.

giantkitten thank you so much for all that advice! I cleaned up the poo this morning once it had dried a bit and was easier to move 🤢 so am feeling a bit less stupidly furious about it all but will get to work on spiking it up.

Thank you again!

I know my cat only shits in my garden because she disappears for hours, comes back, poos and leaves again Grin

Nonnymum · 13/05/2019 16:59

No they don't all bury it. They often leave it on the pebbles in our garden often for the DC to pick up when playing, or sometimes they dig up the flowerbeds.
