So I'm absolutely hopeless at hosting parties and the like. This weekend I have bravely/foolishly invited about 10-15 people over for drinks/snacks and some silly games. I'm feeling a bit stumped on the food, partly because I'm just not very good at this sort of thing but mainly because I've really shaken up my diet recently and although I'm not just going to serve carrot sticks I would like the food to be fairly healthy. So far I've got some breadsticks and salad sticks to go with hummus. Some nice flatbready cracker things and some grapes, that's it. Any ideas would be great thanks

Also how much food do I even need to do? I think it's late enough that people will have already had dinner.

Cheese and crackers and some nice chutney always a winner! Olives? Mozzarella and tomato on cocktail stick with a basil leaf. If you get unroasted unsalted nuts you can toast in the oven and roll in salt and spices which is a bit healthier

Half a cherry tomato, a basil leaf and a cube of mozzarella on a cocktail stick.
Cook some tortellini, dress with French dressing and put on a cocktail stick with tomato or a chunk if pepper.
Stuffed eggs (very retro) a hard boil eggs, halve, mix the yolks with a bit of mayo and some curry powder and pile back into the whites.

I'll think of some more later but these are my regulars.

Olives, crisps and nuts in bowls. Cheese biscuits with a variety of toppings; cheese spread with an olive, bit of ham or prawn on top, some with pate. A French stick cut into slices with a couple of different pates on, some with butter and ham. Chipolata sausages, mini pigs in blankets. Mini pizzas. Salad bowl for colour. Hope it goes well.

Then if you’re worried I’d get some frozen canapé bits that you can whack in the oven if people are ravenous or stay longer than you expect

Oh! Blini with a dollop of low fat Greek yog and a bit of smoked salmon. Lemon and black pepper at the last minute. Lush

bluebellation · 09/05/2019 20:44

Spread cream cheese in ham slices (or smoked salmon), roll up and slice into 'pinwheels'.
Smoked mackerel pate on cucumber slices.

I'm hungry now!

Little chicken satay sticks

Cocktail sausages with honey and mustard

Croustades filled with boursin and mayo mixed together with prawns on top

Cherry tom, mozzarella pearl and black olive on a stick with a basil leaf threaded through

Disks of bread cut with a fluted pastry cutter - spread with garlic butter and popped oven for 6/7 mins, cool and top with guac and a furled salami slice

Buy some ready made pop in the oven finger bits M&S

Cheeseboard with crackers, grapes and chutney

Possibly some mini fruit pastries/eclairs

I think you need to allow 6-8 pieces pp.

Something else that's also gone down well with the older DC is good burgers in buns - done on the BBQ. V v easy.

Hmmm I was full of ideas until you mentioned the words healthy hahaha. You could also do a fruit platter.

Also some melba toast and pate? X

MummyBear2352 · 09/05/2019 21:00

MummyBear2352 · 09/05/2019 21:01

Cheese and Crackers? X

Fresh fruit skewers.

Bowl of fresh strawberries. Maybe cream and chocolate sauce on the side.

Hadalifeonce · 09/05/2019 21:05

Glace cherry wrapped in streaky bacon, baked and served on a cocktail stick, sound weird, but delicious.

EnglishRose1320 · 09/05/2019 21:21

Hadalifeonce- that does sound incredibly weird, although I like bacon and cherries, not a massive fan of glace cherries though, may have to experiment.

Sounds more like a devil on horseback to me. Prune, replace stone with almond, wrap in smoked streaky, oven for 20 mins. They are delish. For Angels replace the prune with an oyster.

EnglishRose1320 · 10/05/2019 08:31

Going to have to disagree with you Ohtheroses they do not sound delish, dislike both prunes and almonds, sorry!
