Anyone else think last night's Emmerdale was too much for 7pm?

Hi,

I do think it's important to cover these storylines, don't get me wrong, but I honestly think this level of violence shouldn't be aired so early.

Also, I think at the very least, there needed to be a specific trigger warning. Not just "tonight's episode contains scenes which some viewers may find destressing". It should have been much more specific about it containing sexual violence. This is hugely triggering for so many people, myself included.

I was watching it with my 12 year old DD and could see where it was going, so paused it and told her I would vet it first and let her watch it later if it was ok.

I'm really glad I did. It was awful. The build up and violence before the actual rape and the physical injuries after the attack, were too graphic for that time of night imo.

I've had many conversations about consent with my DD over the past year or so. I think it's very important and we have watched storylines like this together before and it has opened discussions, which unfortunately we have to have. I get all that. This was too much though, wasn't it?

If you saw it, what are your thoughts?

I think they had made it pretty obvious in the build up what was going to happen and the fact that was what the episode was about was well known.

Rape isn’t nice and there is no point covering a storyline like that unless they do it properly.

I thought it was clear what had happened to Vicoria, so I knew this would be a distressing episode. Nevertheless, I had to stop watching . It was v clear what as about to happen, but I didn't want to see any of it. Well acted, I thought

Yes, but "properly" should also cover what's appropriate for that time. Otherwise we might as well get rid of censorship altogether.

I agree it was very well acted, user
