Is this grammatically correct?

"We wonder if he will follow his cousins footsteps..."

talking about more than one cousin...

Should it be cousins' or no apostrophe?

Isn't the phrase normally to follow in someone's footsteps? Although grammatically I'm not sure that's any better!

Apostrophe as it’s possessive. The footsteps belong to the cousin.

Sorry Ive changed the sentence - now reads:

We wonder if XXX will follow his cousins and learn to ride
