For the love of Christ...how to get Stretch Armstrong innards out of the carpet?!

Poor Stretch has met an untimely demise and, I presume, the hands of the 3yo

He’s been lovingly put on the carpet near the radiator where he has oozed a thick, sticky, dark, tar like substance everywhere...there’s fucking rivers of it.

Is the carpet destroyed forever?!

Even as I ask, I know the answer...Sad

Some sort of incantation perhaps

Burlea · 09/05/2019 11:47

Put a lot of ice cubes over it and let it harden hopefully it can then be peeled off. It's worth a try. This works on chewing gum.

FiveStoryFire · 09/05/2019 11:47

God we've got one of these. It might have to go now.

You can still get Stretch Armstrong!?

(Unhelpful)

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 09/05/2019 12:37

I tried the ice thing and it turned it stickier! I’ve got ice packs on it now because I feel like cold is the answer!

Yes you can still get him...the sticky innard prick!

I highly recommend everyone gets rid...or have them ready incase a burglar comes then you can cut it open and stick the burglar to the ground!

Thanks all!!

I knew you could get them still but I had no idea they had weird innards. I just thought it was that foamy stretchy stuff all through. Hope you get it off OP, sounds like hell.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 09/05/2019 15:58

The innards are genuinely like thick tar!

I thought they might’ve changed the innards but apparently not - They were the same 20 years ago when DB had one...I still remember when he cut his open (he was an....inquisitive child...) and DM found it stuffed at the bottom of the wardrobe...very glad I wasn’t him that day

WD40 is good for lots of things - wonder if you could scrape off as much as poss and then see if it frees up the residue??
NB this is only a WILD GUESS and not based on any information! Usual disclaimers - test on small areas, own risk....
Does Google suggest anything?

Baloonphobia · 09/05/2019 16:30

Sorry, no help but your dilemma cheered me up!

TheQueef · 09/05/2019 16:31

How did a 3yr old break Stretch ?!?
How big is the toddler?

rainbowruthie · 09/05/2019 16:33

I have no idea, sorry, but I love your thread title Grin

Troels · 09/05/2019 16:42

OMG I didn't realize he was still around. He was my oldest sons favorite, thank gooodness he wasn't strong enough to spill the poor mans guts. Ds is now 31

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 09/05/2019 16:44

Some people say ots corn syrup inside strech pthers say super glue.

So maybe search how to get corn syrup out of things

If you watch the cutting open sqishy videos on youtube you'll see whats inside Strech is the viliest thickest normally clear substace. I suspect its not removable sorry OP

Ivestoppedreadingthenews · 09/05/2019 16:44

This made me laugh so much as me and my siblings broke one and caused a huge mess 20 years ago! It said it stretched right?! Grin

Good luck!

BertrandRussell · 09/05/2019 16:47

When my dd and her cousins tied one end of Stretch to the top bannister and stretched him down the stairs until he split, my PILs were getting his innards out of everywhere for months- but it was white, not black. Black sounds worrying- are you sure he didn’t die of something nasty.....

Troels · 09/05/2019 16:48

I just had a read on wikipedia and it says the innards are gelled corn syrup if that helps

TheCrowFromBelow · 09/05/2019 16:49

If he’s anything like the purple and green slime my 5yo was given, well the 5 yo is now 12 and the slime is still there.
Thanks mum Hmm

Willowkoko · 09/05/2019 16:55

I remember getting socked in the face by my brother as a child with a Stretch Armstrong. I admire the strength of your 3 yo!

Not sure what it’s exactly made of, but I had a recent incident with some extremely gel like slime, which had harden to my brand new carpet. WD-40 saved my carpet and DHs life for buying it.

Easilyflattered · 09/05/2019 17:22

Vinegar got nasty navy blue slime out of my carpet.

naechancepal · 09/05/2019 17:32

I got tar out of a carpet using normal cooking oil, sunflower I think, that might work for stretch?

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 09/05/2019 17:36

Her brother has recently taught her to open food packs with her teeth Hmm so I’m pretty sure some teeth were involved in the demise!

I’ve put the armchair over it...Hmm

Biancadelrioisback · 09/05/2019 17:59

Oh no! I've bought one for DS (2) but haven't given it to him yet. He likes to bit stuff. I may rethink

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 09/05/2019 19:29

Biancadelrioisback don’t do it!!

CielBleuEtNuages · 09/05/2019 20:12

Huh. Stretch might be disappearing from DS' room before he gets back from his school trip tomorrow...
