DBS checks for EU teachers

Does anyone work in HR?

If a new teacher is starting a job and has just moved here from another EU country, does a DBS check cover their history in their EU home country, or is the school obliged to check their DBS equivalent from their home country?

In Germany i. e. what you are looking for is a "erweitertes polizeiliches Führungszeugnis für Kinder- und Jugendschutz".
Teachers and I assume people working as teachers need this. So if they have taught in Germany they will have it anyway and you can ask for this to be included in their application.

I am sure I had to present a certificate form my country, not as DBS, the county's equivalent, but not sure when

I’m a non-teaching education professional but I i have to have an enhanced dbs check for my LA role. I had to also obtain the equivalent check/certificate from every country ive lived in over the last 5 years.

Some EU countries, like France, issue these for free and will post them to a UK address. Others will charge and insist they are collected in person. HR ought to be prepared to cover these costs.
