DS is 10, despite my best efforts he’s never (of his own free will) picked up a book to read. We’ve bought him tonnes over the years and he enjoys them but only when we’re reading to him. He is great at reading but has never enjoyed it.

We bought him the Harry Potter box set for Christmas and it’s finally clicked! Last night he asked if he could stay up late to finish his chapter. When I went in to turn off his light, the sweat was pouring off him! He’d got to the Voldemort/unicorn part. He was engrossed and scared and couldn’t put it down 🥳

What moments has everyone else had?

Oh that's brilliant, well done to all of you (and of course to JK for writing a v interesting story) Grin. There's a great Harry Potter tour in Hertfordshire too if he's interested in that sort of thing. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a lifetime love of reading.

I think for me, a great moment was when DD (7) finally cracked cursive handwriting. She struggled so much with it so we practiced it lots and now I can finally understand what she's writing. Now on to fractions...
