First physio appointment, what happens?

Having done my back in, Ive booked a private physio appointment tomorrow.

But I’ve never been to a physio before so what happens? Do they show me exercises to do or do we do them there? And subsequent appointments, what happens after?

TIA

Usually they will ask you about overall health & medical history, then specifically about this injury, how you did it, where the pain is, what makes it worse/better etc.
They will often examine you, test range of movement of different bits of you to try to pinpoint what’s going on.

They will usually explain what they think the problem is, and then take you through a series of exercises to make sure you’re doing them properly and give you written information and exercise sheets away with you.

I have also had taping and ultrasound from physio before although that was for a shoulder.

This is just based on having been to different physios.
I would say, physio is very dependent on what you put in. If you don’t do the exercises it won’t work. Even one rep a day can make a difference.

Thank you, that’s very helpful

They will most likely ask you to lie face down on a couch so they can massage/do physio on your back. Wear clothes you can remove or adjust. You'll almost certainly need to take your top off, and very likely push skirt or trousers down (so physio can access the lower part of your spine).

Also, first rule of physio - don't wear mascara! (or wear waterproof) My eyes always water.
