Fancy hotel for birthday - South West?

It’s my 30th in a couple of months & I’d love to celebrate with DH in a swanky hotel, where we can just chill out, eat, walk, swim & nap.

We’re based in the South West so anything from Cornwall to the Cotswolds is great for us.

Ideally has availability on the August bank holiday, and somewhere with outdoor space. Like a little hideaway with an outdoor bath type thing. But also open to a gorgeous hotel on the beach/in the country.

I kind of like the Fish Hotel in the Cotswolds, but a friend went there for her 30th, so would like to do something a bit different.

Budget about 200-250 per night & we would probably do two nights rather than three.

Any ideas are very much appreciated Smile

Scarlet Hotel, Cornwall - adult only, pricy
Bedruthan Hotel - the sister hotel, allows kids, still lush, but a bit cheaper

Headland Hotel, Newquay - really lovely hotel with spa and fantastic views

Calcot Manor or Barnsley House are both lovely.

Hotel Endsleigh is one of the places I would love to stay.

WingingWonder · 07/05/2019 21:07

Scarlet in Cornwall
Babbington house in Somerset
Cowley mannor in Oxfordshire
The pig chain are more low key and lovely but probably less amenities than you indicate
Mr&Mrs Smith directory hotels have never let me down either- found descriptions pretty accurate

escapingtothecountry · 07/05/2019 21:07

Saunton Sands, north devon. Or Christchurch harbour hotel.

escapingtothecountry · 07/05/2019 21:08

And babbington House.

WingingWonder · 07/05/2019 21:08

Also- all theses places will be RAMMED for Bh- a couple of weeks later would make all the difference

Not a hotel but look at Wooldown Cottages near Bude. Quite the loveliest place we have ever stayed that way, run by an amazing family who put everything into getting the details spot on. Amazing views and lots of the rooms have hot tubs etc.

RezCowgirl · 07/05/2019 21:10

Royal Cresent Hotel Bath.

TheFlis12345 · 07/05/2019 21:10

Oh and Wooldown is strictly adults only, so summer hols won’t be an issue.

YahBasic · 07/05/2019 21:11

These are all spot on, going to send to DH to have a look through tomorrow.

Can anyone recommend any in Dorset? I think we’d love the Jurassic Coast.

I know @WingingWonder - it annoys me every year that my birthday falls on/near that weekend. I’d like to be away to celebrate, but will also say to DH to look at weekends around for a better deal.

No swimming, but the Manor House in Castle Coombe is amazing.

puppylovebaby · 07/05/2019 21:12

Bedruthen
Bovey Castle
Both are fabulous, you won't be disappointed. I remember going to Moonfleet Manor for a 30th yrs ago and that was nice

Hollowvictory · 07/05/2019 21:15

I've been to several of these mentioned and some of them would be over your budget unfortunately. So price and availability will be key I think.

Hollowvictory · 07/05/2019 21:16

Why would the op choose bedruthan for a child free swanky weekend! kids everywhere, and not swanky!

FanSpamTastic · 07/05/2019 21:18

In Dorset I'd go to Chewton Glen.

In Cornwall I'd go to the Scarlet.

Hollowvictory · 07/05/2019 21:20

I find the scarlet a bit lacking in personality, the views are amazing but the hotel could be anywhere.
How about Burgh Island?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/05/2019 21:26

The Pig on the Beach, Studland, see if they have their shepherds huts available

Rosie2000 · 07/05/2019 21:28

Gidleigh Park or Bovey Castle

Ribeebie · 07/05/2019 21:33

Another vote for the Headland Hotel in Cornwall. It's wonderful. They have some amazing suites, a lovely pool and spa and the food is fab. They also have an extensive gin and cocktail list Grin The service is excellent and it's perched right on the top of a cliff overlooking Fistral Beach so stunning views.

YouBigChump · 07/05/2019 21:35

Agree with
Pig on the Beach
Chewton Glen
The Scarlet
I've stayed in all of them and they'd be perfect.
Lime wood is supposed to be lovely.
