It depends what lifestyle you want.
I know nothing about Spain, but you could get a nice 2 or 3 bedroom apartment in Paris or a large rural property with a pool and some land elsewhere in France.

BanningTheWordNaice · 07/05/2019 20:18

Hahah at apartment in Paris for that money.

BanningTheWordNaice · 07/05/2019 20:18

Not to the OP ofc

To be honest OP 60K isn't going to get you very far, unless you're happy with something v isolated and v bijou!

Not sure what decade @endofthelinefinally thinks you're planning on buying in, but you definitely won't get two bedrooms in Paris for that...

endofthelinefinally · 07/05/2019 20:27

OOps - I misread!!
I thought the OP said 500 to 600 K

Forget /ignore my post OP

Userplusnumbers · 07/05/2019 20:30

Haha! That makes more sense!

OP - have you considered Italy - there's a number of schemes at the moment where they're selling off houses in run down villages for a song. The catch being you're expected to renovate the property!

Just daydreaming on a well known property site, but without any knowledge of areas. So will define my wish list

2 beds minimum ( ok one bed and a decent lounge area for sofa bed if near the sea)
Outside space for alfresco dining or sitting in my jimjams with a coffee and fag.
Near to some water , sea, lakes, river, stream, pond.

When I say near the sea, I mean half an hour away in the car.

A friend lives in Finistere and there would be houses in that area for your budget.

FiremanKing · 07/05/2019 20:44

With that budget try Bulgaria

Oh I thought you was actually looking.

Frenchfancy · 07/05/2019 20:44

If I had that money I would put it in savings and use interest to rent somewhere for a couple of weeks a year. Second homes become very expensive once you factor in taxes and utilities and upkeep. You could get a basic 2 bed for that somewhere un-touristy like Niort. But you would have to spend around 3k a year in costs.

Mokepon · 07/05/2019 20:46

I'd go to Spain but no idea what you'd get anywhere for that budget.
A small 1bed studio maybe, 2 beds, not sure.

NameChangeNugget · 07/05/2019 20:48

You could buy a mobile home with that budget OP.

The purchase process can be very protracted in Italy, we looked into it and decided against it. Certain parts of France are very cheap, for example the Limousin, where there are lots of lakes which fulfill the need to be near water. Have a look at Haute Vienne, Creuse and Correze. Some mega bargains to be had, especially in Creuse.

frumpety · 07/05/2019 20:53

Villa I kind of am , DH retires soon Smile

Lots of British in Finistere, I think the weather is hit and miss though! Beautiful area though.

MrsPworkingmummy · 07/05/2019 20:56

Two of our good friends have homes in rural Northern France (Normandy) and property prices there are excellent. If you looked at somewhere like the medieval village of Domfront, you could buy a large farmhouse with land for £30,000. We were in Tinchebray recently, and there was a midterraced house for sale in the town for only 12000. It was snapped up! As lomg6as you're prepared to drive to touristy sites, you'll get a lovely home amongst the locals for well within your budget in Northern France. Weather not always great so depends on your preference.

BarbaraofSevillle · 07/05/2019 21:09

Hundreds of apartments and village houses in Andalusia on Rightmove for that price, that's what I'd go for.
