Very rare we hear these so I thought I would share just in case anyone else is stuck in the self employed ex hellhole!

Ex is a director of his own company. When they initially did the sums they came back with a figure of £44 a month! He was apparently paying himself £155 a week Hmm

I called them up the same day and requested a variation, which means they had to ask HMRC if he was paying himself dividends which he hadn’t told the CMS about.

HMRC came back and said yes he was and today DDs monthly award went up to £397 a month!!

I really did keep on top of them, made sure they told me the timeframes and kept calling and checking how it was progressing.

He also has to pay the backdated amount! All in all it’s taken around three weeks from requesting the variation to the new award today.

Definitely worth doing if you know your ex is hiding behind a false income for tax purposes whilst paying himself (or herself) dividends

Yay! I’m glad it worked out for you and your DD and the payments are going up.

This is great news, but it shouldn’t have to be this hard!

It shouldn’t have to be this hard!

Why do they put that unnecessary step in at the start?! Surely they should just check for dividend payments off the bat. It’s ridiculous you have to ask them to check or they just don’t
