Does anyone else not have a shower?

As in, not have a shower in their house? I really miss having a shower, and am hoping , eventually, to put one in but it will mean quite a massive overhaul of the bathroom which I just can't afford atm.

I don't, and it's a rental so can't put one in. And I hate my bath. I dread washing but get on with it.

vickibee · 07/05/2019 11:57

we have a shower but i never use it, love a wallow in the bath, it is my 20 minutes of peace and quiet in the day. I come out feeling cosy and warm.

Could you put one of those miser tap / shower things over your bath with a shower curtain?

GreenEggsHamandChips · 07/05/2019 11:59

Id be lost without a proper decent shower. Literally wouldn't buy a house that didn't have one in.

I'd happily lose the bath. DD would object though

Angie169 · 07/05/2019 12:08

I don't have one and although I love my bath I wish I had a shower too . But like PP my house is rented so I can't install one and to be honest I would not know where to start with getting one put in .

Hidingtonothing · 07/05/2019 12:09

We haven't had one in either of the two houses I've lived in for the past 10 years Sad Like you it would need major overhaul of the bathroom to put one in and we haven't been able to afford it as yet. I miss showers, was always a twice a day person but only manage a bath every other day as it's just so much faff. It is on the things-to-do list but likely to be another year at least Sad

Theoldwoman · 07/05/2019 13:05

I have never seen any homes before without one. A bath yes, but not a shower.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 07/05/2019 13:14

Just buy a tap set with integrated shower head and mount it on a bracket. You can make good the holes created by the bracket if and when you leave, although a landlord might be thankful for it anyway!

Add in a pressure-fit shower rail and curtain/s (depending if you need to protect the wall as well as the outside), et voila.

Really not a difficult issue to solve.

We don't and it's a rented flat so can't install one. I swear, even going to the gym or staying in a hotel is utter luxury just thanks to the shower!

We are hoping to own our first house later this year and we've done nothing but discuss the type of shower we want Grin

Sparrowlegs248 · 07/05/2019 14:47

@BuzzPeakWankBobbly that wouldn't work in my bathroom. Hence why I still don't have a shower!

We managed without a shower for 5 years, I did shit loads of overtime and a few weeks ago had a new bathroom complete with fancy new shower.
It's the best things ever and I wonder how we managed without one for so long.
It's a thing of beauty!

Hidingtonothing · 07/05/2019 14:56

We've tried to do exactly that Buzz but our antiquated boiler system can't cope with it. It's a separate water tank rather than a combi boiler and, for some reason my DH seems to understand but I don't, it basically shoots the hot water straight out of the overflow instead of through the shower! Apparently there's a valve we can fit to make it work but there's no spare money for either the valve or the plumber we'd probably need to fit it atm.

We also have the weirdest bathroom layout I've ever seen, there's a weird sort of recess bit behind the tap end of the bath which makes it pretty much impossible to fit a shower curtain. The only way to waterproof it properly for a proper stand-up shower is either build a small section of false wall or tile two entire walls, neither of which we can afford right now. I wish it was as simple as your post but it isn't always Sad

When I moved into my place there was only a (poor quality) walk in shower and no bath. I hated it. I was so happy when I got a bath about 3 years later. I have an electric shower over the bath now for quickness/convenience. But if I could only have one or the other, I would prefer a bath.

DobbyLovesSocks · 07/05/2019 19:48

Our first house we didn't have a shower and we lived there for 13 years. We moved 2 years ago and this house does have a shower. DH and DS prefer baths but I prefer shower. This way everyone is happy

1wearpurple · 07/05/2019 19:50

We don't have one. Wouldn't necessarily want one either.

notso · 07/05/2019 20:22

My parents only have a bath with one of those miserable drizzling things on the tap which pops off sporadically to either scald or freeze you. It's ok, we grew up with it and my parents mostly have baths but baths have never been my thing. We've taken out the bath in our current house and replaced with a bigger shower.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly
I wish I could do this but my bath is about two foot from the wall , I have even considered building some sort of frame to mount a shower head on but I would not know how to make it

managedmis · 07/05/2019 21:21

Yeah no shower isn't good

Creamegghunter · 07/05/2019 21:24

No but I really miss my bath which we got rid of. Whenever we go away we always book somewhere with a bath
