Interview in 2 hours, panic

NorthEndGal · 07/05/2019 10:59

I was reading through my Facebook feed, saw an article, posted a comment, as you do.
A week later I received a message, asking if I'd be interested in participating in an interview , contact back of yes.
I did, we exchanged emails, outlined what would be in the interview loosely, set a time, done.
Or so I thought.
Now it's less than two hours to go and I am panicked I will forget what we are talking about, or that I will rabbit on (a real world issue for me) or that I sound odd
I am also on the tail end of bronchitis, and sound like an old man.

I want to do a good job, as it is about a topic I really care about. But I think I am not the best person for the job.
I should be behind the scenes

Hi there OP

We're not sure if you've seen, we have some interview tips here.

We hope they'll help boost your confidence a bit - we bet you'll be great. Best of luck! Flowers

Curious1981 · 07/05/2019 11:37

They messaged you via Facebook?

Are you sure not selling you something? To sign up to be one of their reps?

NorthEndGal · 07/05/2019 11:37

Thank you @AnyaMumsnet ! I really appreciate it, and I will check them out now.
I'm going to make a honey tea too, for the throat.

OP, is it for some sort of “set up your own business selling XYZ” type thing? Usually beauty or wellbeing products?

NorthEndGal · 07/05/2019 11:40

Curious1981 that's exactly what I thought, I almost deleted the first message without even reading it, because it said "world service" and to me, that sounds like a nebulous advertising word.
Turns out it is BBC World Service
I have thoroughly checked out the fellow, and have seen his LinkedIn, previous stuff

NorthEndGal · 07/05/2019 11:41

It's not selling anything, it's about cutting down plastic use in the home

NorthEndGal · 07/05/2019 11:43

I have had lots of spam ads before with the whole ' we want to sponsor you schtick' and then you see you have to buy that support.
I stay the frig away from that stuff. I don't buy likes, or that stuff

LittleMissNaice · 07/05/2019 11:45

Are you talking about a job interview OP or a media interview?

ShirleyPhallus · 07/05/2019 11:45

Do you mean a recorded interview for media then?

NorthEndGal · 07/05/2019 11:47

Media

OP posts:
NorthEndGal · 07/05/2019 11:50

That's why I am worried about my voice, coughing attacks, eyc

Ok. You need to calm your nerves because you’re not making much sense on this thread so need to be aware of speaking calmly for the interview

Bullet point down your key points / thoughts you’d like to make and have them in front if you in case you need your place

Have you asked them for a copy of the questions? That’s pretty standard and they should be able to send them to you now

Lastly, usually from an interview they will use anything from 5 seconds of a soundbite to about 2 minutes so rest assured that, unless it’s live, they’ll edit out anything very awkward / contentious

Good luck!

NorthEndGal · 07/05/2019 11:56

That a good point, I will go write down some quick , simple points, it case I get lost

OP posts:
Curious1981 · 07/05/2019 12:00

Op
I strongly doubt it is for a paid position
It will either be interview for marketing purposes or selling you something

I wouldn’t give it any further thoughts. In fact I’d dodge the call!

MollysLips · 07/05/2019 12:02

You'll be great! It's really easy. They'll almost undoubtedly pre-record it, so you'll have time to do bits again if you ramble/cough/accidentally shout BOLLOCKS.

NorthEndGal · 07/05/2019 12:11

@Curious1981 it is an interview talking about reducing plastic use, not for a job, sorry I wasn't clear.
I meant that when they approached me, I too thought it was a scam. It is not.

Thank you @MossyLips , I have gone back and reread the emails, and you are right, it will be pre-recorded, plus we can talk through the questions first.
I took the advice about and wrote out notes as well.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions, I'll post back later and let you know how it went.

NorthEndGal · 07/05/2019 14:39

Interview went off without a hitch, it only took about half an hour, of that he will only need to use a few minutes.
I only know until broadcast though, what parts he used or how I sound.
Thank you for your support and suggestions!

MollysLips · 07/05/2019 15:05

Yay! Well done you. :)

NorthEndGal · 10/06/2019 11:44

So I got an email this morning, saying the program had aired, I'm at 16:20
And I sound silly but I don't careGrin

I'm on my phone and it won't let me do square brackets, so I can't see how to link properly.

NorthEndGal · 10/06/2019 11:45

Well , I guess it worked anyhow!

ElizaPancakes · 10/06/2019 12:16

I listened!

I love the idea of what you’re doing, unfortunately there just isn’t anywhere I can do this near me. Apparently Waitrose will be doing this, we don’t have one in the area. The only online option I’ve found is about 4x the price for things like coffee beans and pasta, which means I’d have to compromise elsewhere which quite frankly I really can’t do. We’ve already cut down our weekly spend and are getting loose veg with reusable bags only, much less meat than before etc.

ElizaPancakes · 10/06/2019 12:25

I’ve just checked online and my nearest Waitrose is actually 15 miles away (or 22 if google maps has its way Hmm) which isn’t as bad as I thought.

ElizaPancakes · 10/06/2019 12:38

And the unpackaged foods thing is a trial, no where near where I live Hmm

NorthEndGal · 10/06/2019 12:39

I am glad it's reached someone Smile I am surprised they don't have something like that over there, I'd imagine it would be easy to set up.
These are the type of bins I was mentioning, btw

@ElizaPancakes hopefully the less packaging thing can be offered at all grocery stores in the future , it sucks that it is so far from you
