Baby night shifts

So when 3rd is born planning to bottle feed and me an OH can't agree on the night shift so to say. Its it better to get a whole chunk of sleep so OH takes the 1st shift then OH goes to sleep at 12 until 7.30am then heads to work. Or should we take turns? I'm keen for the block sleeping as I can hopefully fit in some naps when baby is napping ect.

My LO is 7 weeks old & the only way we can remain sane is by doing feeds in shifts. We do 8-2am & 2-8am. The way we see it is at least we both get 5/6hrs of decent sleep.
Congratulations on your LO.

I think block sleeping works better if he has to work. My DH goes back to work on Tuesday after 3 weeks off with baby and our plan is for him to do the last late night feed 11/12 o clock and then I'll take the feeds after that so he can sleep.

I'll just head to bed really early and sleep through until the 2/3am feed.

Hoping it works out ok!

Yeah that's the plan here head to bed as soon as I can then any wake ups after 12 I'll deal with.

I'll be doing it for the first time tomorrow night so I'll let you know if it is successful!

With my eldest dp would do the 11pm feed. And would come to bed after. I would go to be early and do the 3am feed. So we would both get good 6/7 hours sleep.

Although the second baby it appeared that I was the only one doing the feeds regardless. But that's another story.

@NotSoThinLizzy just wanted to update. DH went back to work last week and I took the 2/3am and 5/6am feeds.

Baby had other ideas and wouldn't settle past 1am each night. I got as far as Thursday night and woke DH up at 4am in tears because I was exhausted and baby hadn't burped since 1am feed (we think he might have reflux, we can't put him down after a feed at all).

This week we're alternating feeds. So one of us will do the 10/11pm feed and the 5/6am. The other sleeps from 8/9pm until the 2/3am feed and gets to sleep longer in the morning.

I'm finding this easier because we each still get a good 6-7 hours if baby settles and a decent stretch between feeds. And we swap shifts every second night.

We've also agreed to give each other a full night's sleep each at the weekend. So 10/11pm feed and then don't get up again until morning!
