I have been divorced for 2 years, during our marriage we entered an agreement with a member of my husbands family to buy a business , the family member would put in the money and we would live and work on it until we had paid them back .
After 17 years my husband filed for divorce and denied all knowledge of said agreement
I told my solicitor that once the divorce was finalised everything would be handed over to my ex husband
I was basically homeless and so agreed to a very small settlement to find somewhere to live, thinking naively that once my claims re the agreement had been proven that I could then go back to the solicitor and re open the divorce
As soon as the divorce papers came through , literally with in weeks, the business, family home and vehicles were handed over to my ex husband , leaving him with nearly a million pounds worth of assets.
My solicitor then told me there was nothing I could do because I signed the papers !
My husband then cut off all contact and financial help to our daughter who had just left college
I have spent the last 2 years and thousands of pounds trying to find help, I’ve just sold my car to pay for the last solicitor bill, no one in England will help me because my husband filed for divorce in Scotland
I’ve been left with nothing after 25 years of marriage, no pension, no NI payments , the business is now up for sale and my ex has bought himself a property abroad to bolt to once the sale goes through.
It’s been so distressing and exhausting and I feel sorry I’m my heart for my daughter who has done nothing wrong
I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who has been through anything similar, I truly believe it had been planned all along for my ex husband to get everything and me nothing and It seems there’s nothing at all I can do 😔
