Wedding - help me make it 'ours'

So we have hired a large barn and now I'm struggling to know how to start planning the actual day. The trend at the moment is 'rustic' with lots of hessian etc. Do I just go with that as everything is cheaply and easily available. Or do I create my own theme? Have you been to any weddings with a theme that really stood out?! I'd like the day to really reflect our lives and personalities- we are quite outgoing, fun and love music and films. I can draw but not great at crafts.

Any ideas on how to get started would be really great!

Do you actually like the rustic look?

It's pretty and quite easy and inexpensive to put together, but is it 'you'?

A film theme sounds great if that's what you are into...black and white with fairy lights and some silver/gold accents could look really good.

I recommend looking at 'barn weddings' on Pinterest. There are some rustic things on there but also will give you a feel for stuff eg if you want to go for fairy lights, if you want to go for potted plants as table centres etc.

I didn't go but someone I know had their wedding in a cinema as they were film obsessed.

A few other people have had outdoors festival style weddings with camping and fires which were lovely.

Just do what you and your partner like. If you like rustic and handmade then go for it and it'll suit the venue.

I disagree with the PP who said people don't notice the little details because I think they do. I certainly notice the personal touches. I'd much rather that than a flashy wedding.

You can get cinema tickets for invites ... we did a train ticket because my husband loves trains and I am into travel.

Luggage labels were the place cards etc ..

If you have a colour scheme and want to keep the price down and are having bridesmaids look at what you can get on high street before committing to a shade ... honestly there are more shades of one colour I ever knew about.

Just google and pininterest until you find different things you love x x and it will

If you're looking for an easy decoration idea, here's one I made.

I got a pack of double sided scrapbooking paper (thick stuff, you can get it from the range, hobbycraft and amazon) in my chosen colour scheme (watercolour pastels but there's so much you can choose from). and I used a large circle paper punch to cut out lots of circles. I sat and did this in front of the tv one night.

Then I used my sewing machine to sew them together to make lots of brightly coloured confetti garlands, which I strung from the ceiling.

The punch was £8 ish and the paper was around a tenner in total maybe? Not much more. I made faaaaaarrrr too many. But it looked so pretty. I've got some of the unused ones up in my house now.

I've attached an example (not one I made, just from google)

Super easy to make and very affordable. You can choose whatever colours you like.
