Just started and a sentence stood out "in an open marketplace for attention, darker emotions attract more eyeballs than positive and constructive thoughts. For heavy internet users, repeated interaction with this darkness can become a source of draining negativity..."

Absolutely fascinating. My first thought was MN Grin all the positives and negatives it brings. Probably, for me, mostly negatives

I haven’t, but I want to. I read his book Deep Work which was excellent.

I think he recommends a digital detox. Which I'm ashamed to say, I'm actually quite anxious about

Oh yes, I'm a big fan of Cal Newport. Like pinegreen, I loved his Deep Work book and it's really helped me think about how I want to work.

Before reading Digital Minimalism, I considered myself a careful and casual digital user, but when I actually made a list of all the ways I use digital distractions to fill the little empty spaces, I was horrified. And frightened by the idea of giving them up, even temporarily. It's insidious how these things have crept into our lives without proper consideration of their downsides.
