I’m off sick at the moment, don’t want to contact and colleagues to ask but I’ve had an extra £170 in this months pay. Can anyone explain why please? I will ask google too but thought I’d try here first! I’m band 5, 23 hrs per week. Many thanks.

Is it your annual increment? New financial year?

ew1990 · 03/05/2019 19:53

Are you at the top of your pay band? There's been a pay rise but people at the top of their bands have had a one off payment

RogueV · 03/05/2019 19:53

Apologies not increment... it’s the 1% April increase I believe?

Ffsnosexallowed · 03/05/2019 19:55

There's no way that's a pay rise - far too much!

Beanybye · 03/05/2019 19:56

I am at the top of my banding. So it’s a one off £170 and next months pay will be back to normal?

New financial year - tax thresholds have changed?

chamenanged · 03/05/2019 19:57

Remember your tax free allowance has gone up to £12500 which will boost it a bit as well (not by that much, obviously).

Beanybye · 03/05/2019 19:57

Ffsnosexallowed yes you’re right, I didn’t word that correctly, I should have said ‘over payment’. Wish it was a pay rise though!

Check your payslip - can you see where the difference is?

ew1990 · 03/05/2019 19:58

Yeah 😊

BuffySummerss · 03/05/2019 20:21

It's a one off payment for being at the top of your band. Your pay will be back to normal next month. Everyone at the top of their banding got a one off payment. Google it

LoubyLou1234 · 03/05/2019 20:23

NHS staff here. We got a one off 1.1% payment in April's pay as part of the agreed 3 year pay deal. Only if we top of bands though. My actual pay rise amounted to about £20 a month.

EvaHarknessRose · 03/05/2019 20:25

There has been a readjusting of pay points on the bandings I believe, the pay deal was a bad deal long term but does have some good short term boosts to some people’s pay. I got the same extra this month and I am not at the top of my band. Google the pay points, they are different now.

Beanybye · 03/05/2019 20:25

Thanks everyone.

I had the best pay check I ever had. Top band 5. I think it's to do with the pay deal that we had last year.

BLACKTUESDAY1 · 04/05/2019 08:15

I read that everyone at the top of their band on 31 March got this one off payment. I was at the top of a band 3 on 31 March but started a new job on the bottom of a band 4 on 1 April. I didn't receive this one off payment. Is this correct? Tried to contact payroll but its virtually impossible at my Trust!

MrsFionaCharming · 04/05/2019 10:53

Interesting! I also got an ‘overpayment’ of around £150. I figured it was a mistake, so put it in a savings account to gain interest until they asked for it back...
