Hotel with great restaurant no more than hour from London

Looking to book nice hotel for first night away since DD. Ideally no more than an hour from London (but North or West of London). Would like to pay no more than £400 for room and food (as have found a good deal in a London hotel for that price but would be nice to have a little trip). Thanks

The Pig this is a small chain of hotels. New one just opened in Canterbury or try New Forest or Studland in Dorset

Rather than deciding on a hotel first, perhaps decide the location then find a good hotel in that town.

For example, Brighton is a great place to visit so maybe look at Tripadvisor for recommendations. Or consider places such as Cambridge, Oxford, Whistable, Canterbury, Windsor, Stratford, Norwich etc
