Hi

At my wits end looking for this. Can anyone give me some advice - am I missing something - Ive gone to local agencies and placed an ad on gumtree but no luck. Would really appreciate any ideas on how to find someone to collect and care for my kids for a few hours after school as I'm really struggling :(

Dirs the school have a Facebook group?

Ask the teacher if they know any child minders or parents that collect other kids?

Does

Where in Oxford are you. Most places have a local Facebook group. Ours forever has people asking for childminders/babysitters.

Tricky. I always think there must be mums with more grown up kids who could do this but I guess it’s hard to locate them
Advert in local newsagents?

Thanks - good ideas! Im near Abingdon but the kids are at school in Oxford. Ill try the Facebook page although no idea how to do that - do I just search Abingdon/Oxford in Facebook?

I was hoping there might be parents who are retired/ kids have left home who would be up for this - thats the ideal scenario :)

Yes that Facebook thing may be a good bet. Hopefully there is an active one.

Ask at the school reception - two of my friends have used classroom assistants after school for this very thing.

Find a nanny agency in your area and advertise for a after school nanny.

Also nannyjob.co.uk

There are two universities in Oxford ... how about employing a student or students?

How many and how old are your children?
Is this term time only or school holiday care too?
Is it 5 days per week?

bud1 · 03/05/2019 17:58

I was wondering about how to reach out to students too. Any ideas? kids 10, 8 , 6 but this would really be for the little 2. Term time mainly and 2/3 days a week 330 for 3 hours or so.

Thanks for the great ideas everyone

By the way I'm new to Oxford and just returned to the UK after 17 years so I'm a bit behind on this kind of thing :)

Bet there’s some sort of jobs service for the Universities.
Nanny/ au pair ideal but would nanny’s do that few hours though?

Look on the county council website? They are responsible for registering childcare and I'd expect them to have a list.

AnxiousMcAnxiousFace · 03/05/2019 20:48

I would search a Facebook group local to the school that they are at. Oxford is split into very distinctive areas so should be easy enough to find.

Check if your school offers after school/wrap around care. There are plenty of local Abingdon Facebook groups which you could post on, or your own school Facebook group.
