Very excited that my swallow has found a friend!

Posted on a thread here last year, that we had a lone swallow sitting on our telephone wires, waiting for a mate.

It never found one as far as I know and every evening last summer I would see our swallow sitting alone and it made me feel a bit sad.

This year - she/ he's back and after a month of lone singing, suddenly a whole gang of 4 have turned up and have entertained me every evening with daredevil flying displays.

Can't wait to see if there will be babies!

Anyone else rediculously over invested in wild life antics?

That’s sweet!
I have been so busy lately I haven’t had a chance to look and see for beating birds etc. But my neighbour says there is a pair of robins nesting outside her bedroom window in the creeper...

Aww, that's lovely! I love watching the swallows here swooping and having fun. We have a pair of magpies in the garden this year. They are great to watch, but I almost ran one over as it refused to move from the middle of our drive. DS had to get out of the car and chase it off the driveway Grin

I’ve had to change this as this really is outing, I don’t know anyone else as sad as me 😂

We have two wood pigeons, Alan and Barbera living in some jasmine by the kitchen window. I’ve been impatiently waiting for pigeon babies for years. Alan’s quite tame now (or just thick and puts himself in danger for food). He nearly killed himself by flying into my living room window and I had to go out, in my pyjamas to try and grab him cus he was bleeding everywhere. I love him 😂

Outing - Poor Alan's not the sharpest tool in the shed is he?
Maybe Barbera has hidden the babies as she fears for their safety with her clumsy over trusting mate ( I don;t know if they mate for life but she is fishing in a very shallow gene pool there) Wink

Ooh - I have a love hate relationship with pigeons. They hog all the crumbs that we put out for little ones in the winter but I always feel sorry for them when I watch them lovingly constructing what have to be the worst nests in Birdville. They def need help from DIY SOS.

We have sparrows nesting in our gutters and plenty of other birds getting it on in the garden - robins, blue tits etc.

Do send us an Al & Babs update if baby Alans arrive.

We have a Resident Robin ( usually seen all summer perched on the twisty handle for my washing whirlygig) then he beetles off near Christmas , when it would be lovely to see him.

And we have some mad grey squirrels that run across the fences , I leave a few monkey nuts for them as a treat . They thank me by burying them in my pots, the lawn, anywhere they can dig.

I quite like watching a crow that comes in my garden at the moment. Its quite small and has a couple of white feathers. It sits in a tree in the mornings and I'm sure it's watching/waiting for me to put the bird food down.
There's a bigger crow that tolerates/chases it off/scolds it, depending on what mood takes it.

I put down some bacon rind last week and they seemed to join forces against 3 very loud magpies , it was corvid wars

Love this thread! I've lately become quite obsessed wth birds. Glad your swallow had a mate

For Christmas my husband bought me a bird box with a little camera installed and we've got a blue tit building her nest in it which is so exciting to watch.

We got swallows back nesting in our outbuilding, wagtails in the roof eves and this year we've got a thrush nesting in the log shed. I love watching the swallows swooping around. We have so many garden birds come for food it's fab, we live on a farm and the house is on the edge of a wood and it's perfect for bird spotting. We've even got an owl in one of the old sheds. I haven't seen it as I don't want to disturb it but my husband says it's beautiful.
