Anyone awake and fancy holding my hand (from a distance) while I have D&V?

Camped out on the bathroom floor, haven’t stopped being sick for the past four hours. It’s a bug that has been brought home from nursery. This is just the worst part of parenting. And I am being very pathetic and feeling so sorry for myself.

Any wise words? Nice words? Funny stories to distract me?

Oh you poor thing Sad Flowers

It's a long time ago now but I remember getting everything going when DS1 started nursery so I get it, totally. There was one time that DS brought home a bug that both DH & I got, and I was pregnant.... it was miserable for all of us. The good news - for the future - is that your immunity improves along with theirs.

Sorry I don't have any funny stories, but I hope you feel better soon. I'd give you a hug, but I'm not getting too close Grin

No stories but order this tonight.... Take it after every episode. If anyone else even has a twinge of symptoms give it to them....kids included. It's a wonder product. It's pricey but worth it. (you can get cheaper versions too...and can buy it in big boots as well)

just watched the end of some film on TV.... Captain Marvel I think or maybe Captain Fantastic- not a comic book thing though.... It looked good.

Oh no, I am sorry you are poorly. D and V is the worst! Really hope you're feeling better very soon.

I am wide awake because I am having a baby in the morning, so I can't sleep with excitement! Sorry, not really a funny or interesting story to tell, but I can't contain my excitement!

Holding your hand (from a distance!). If it helps, I've had morning sickness for nine months, so I totally sympathise with how crappy it is to be vomiting, although obviously mine was for a nice reason!

TransFannyUltrasound · 03/05/2019 02:02

Got any charcoal powder? Mixed into big glass of water. Helps get rid of the nasties.

Or warm water with a pinch of salt.

Or peppermint tea with honey.

Plenty of liquid will help you puke better/cleaner (if that makes any sense at all) instead of wretchedly retching with nothing coming out.

I hope you feel better soon!

SleepWarrior · 03/05/2019 02:03

Oh noooo! Can certainly offer a handhold hold but my mind has gone blank for wise words or funny stories! Although keep hydrated as best you can - have a drink as soon as you've been sick and hopefully some will get through before the next sick comes.

Hope you get better soon. Is it just you or do you someone who can get the children up in the morning while you sleep/vomit?

dontgobaconmyheart · 03/05/2019 02:52

Sounds glib but 'This too shall pass' OP. You'll get through it. Get yourself some rehydration sachets, they'll help in the aftermath and rest when you possibly can. Keep your hands clean and as soon as you're mobile get the disinfectant on everything you touch!

At a loss for funny stories as its nearly 3am and I'm awake with a chronic illness but I did accidentally announce "what a lovely gay " quite loudly as I entered a shop this morning, instead of "what a lovely day" and haven't got over the embarrassment (or the looks I got) quite yet.

Get well soon, feeling sorry doe yourself is nothing but natural, you've got this! Flowers

Someoneonlyyouknow · 03/05/2019 03:06

Poor you. The worst thing my DC brought home from nursery was NITS (aka head lice)! So you have something else to look forward to. Sorry. Hope you get some sleep soon.

And congrats @Bumblebee

Namechangedtoprotect · 03/05/2019 03:26

I've woken up with the d part! I've got an interview in a couple of hours. I've taken a Tablet and am now waiting and hoping it will work and I can go back to sleep

Lisette1940 · 03/05/2019 04:10

Hope it's easing name

Congrats bumble lovely squishy newborn soon.

Up with Ds. He's got a leg cramp.

Aimily · 03/05/2019 05:04

Oh gosh not fun!!!
I've got a fairly funny/disgusting story for you.
I went out for dinner and then dancing with a friend about 4 years ago, food poisoning or something hit me like a tonne of bricks, literally out of nowhere at about 11 at night, we'd just ordered a bottle of wine at the bar and I felt nautious and clammy and dizzy, you know the usual signs. I said to her I needed to get to the toilet ASAP... Didn't make it, filled a pint glass with sick 🤢 both boring and impressive as the glass was literally full to the brim. (that's the funny/disgusting but)
She rang my dp to come and get me and take me home, because obviously I couldn't stay out like that.
He turned up with a bucket and the back of the car covered in bin liners, demanding I sit in the back, clearly he was protecting the car.
We get home and I barely make it into the downstairs toilet... I remember at one point I was sat on the toilet with my head in the sink. I didn't leave that room until nearly lunchtime the next day...

chazm84 · 03/05/2019 05:32

DH came down with some kind of bug and is known for being a bit dramatic about these things. I told him he needed to man up, take some panadol, and get on with taking the rubbish out and putting things away down under the house. He was due to fly out for work early next morning so I was adamant he get it all done before packing and leaving it to me.
But then a couple of hours later I started to feel a bit off too...
It turned into the most horrendous d&v bug either of us had experienced in memory and we had to take turns hauling ourselves off the bed to put a single item into his suitcase at a time.

Thankfully his one wound down overnight and made his flight (complete with anti bac wipes for anything he touched and hand sanitiser). These days I'm much more sympathetic to his man flu episodes!

Crunchymum · 03/05/2019 06:37

Sorry I know this isn't going to be helpful to the OP, but are you serious @chazm84

Your husband came down with "the most horrendous D&V bug" and he got his plane the next day? You do know he was still very contagious and could have infected many other passengers?

Very selfish and entitled and his bloody anti bac and hand sanitiser would have done fuck all But hey cool story Shock

Crunchymum · 03/05/2019 06:38

OP, hope you have got it all out of your system and are resting now.

chazm84 · 03/05/2019 07:25

@crunchymum in an ideal world and all that hey? We all have to do things in less than perfect circumstances sometimes and just do the best we can at any given time.

BloodyBosch · 03/05/2019 07:30

@chazm84 that's doing your best? Putting hundreds of people at risk because it's more convenient for you? Shock
Hope you feel better op. It's bloody miserable Flowers

Motheroffeminists · 03/05/2019 07:33

Poor you. There's not much worse, if anything. My recommendation is a hot water bottle for your tummy to cuddle when you are sat on the toilet. It helps with the cramps. Sudocrem on your poor bum and wet wipes that have been in the fridge to help soothe. Get well soon!

aurynne · 03/05/2019 08:35

I won't hold your hand unless you have drowned it in sanitiser first!!!

TheAnswerIsInABookSomewhere · 03/05/2019 08:44

You were not being pathetic, at all. It’s horrible, and you have every right to feel sorry for yourself. I really hope you’re over the worst of it now and things start to get better today. It’ll be over so soon!
