Would you tell your ds’s friends mum...

So in the car today my ds friend said he’d seen ‘a quiet place’ (for anyone not familiar-blind aliens take over the world and muller you to death if they hear you). Ds and his friend are 8. He watched it with his older sister who looks after him for an hour or so every now and then. Would you tell his parents they’d watched it?? Or just stay out of it. I would never let my child watch that. And I don’t want him even hearing about the plot so when he started talking about it in the car I was pretty miffed.

I don’t know how old the sister is but I suspect there’s a good chance she’s described the plot to try scare her brother, or maybe he’s seen a trailer, and he’s bragging by saying he’s seen it when he hasn’t (a young relative of mine used to do this). So I’d probably stay out of it unless your DS goes round when the parents are out and the sister is in charge. If that’s the case then it’s definitely ok to say you don’t want him watching horror films and confirm with the parents what the sister lets them watch. And I would also think it’s fine to tell the friend that’s not a nice subject to discuss in the car. But personally I wouldn’t feel the need to explicitly inform the parents.

If you are friendly with the parents then I would mention it incase they are unaware. They may know though and allow it - my cousins were allowed to watch horror films growing up, from a really young age.

Kids say all sorts of shit though don't they. My son is totally credulous and believes that other boys in his class routinely watch IT and other nonsense like that. They're 6!
