Glue ear at 7?

My DS2 (7) has had ear ache on and off for months. GP said glue ear, then at a follow up said it has cleared, but the periodic ear ache continues. I thought 7 was quite late to develop issues (symptoms been since he was 6).

Any one have any experiences of this?

My DS developed glue ear at 7 with no previous problems. It's just recurred again at the age of 8.5.

I originally developed it as a toddler but was rather surprised when it returned at 25. The leaflets I was given were definitely aimed at children.
