Am I pregnant? With a twist!

Well, am I?
Am married, 40, not on hormonal contraception, periods gone a weird, but still regular.

For the past week or 2 am feeling with regularity tiny 'kicks' and 'rolls' along one side of my abdomen. Am not unusually gassy or anything. I have 3 kids already, for context, and it feels exactly like the first glitters.
Someone at work asked was I pg. Well my tummy has started to stick out a bit in front but I put it down to the wine and pizza.

I do feel fairly tired and had some horrendous anxiety attacks of late. Which to me are sparked by hormones.
But could also be the aforementioned wine and pizza. Or the peri. Or having 3 kids, a job, normal life stuff.

I do not want to freak out or tell anyone or make any sort of drama unless I have to. I just want to calmly and quietly poas - is there any stick for detecting a pregnancy of a few months rather than weeks?

I'm not in the UK, so GP visit will be €50, and I want privacy to consider my options, if any.

You are clearly ignoring Qs about unprotected sex.
Yes?

If you had unprotected sex, then yes, it's possible you are PG.

But putting on weight , feeling tired and being anxious are also classic signs of middle age and peri menopause.

I'd think most women in your circs would be saying things like 'four months back we had sex and didn't use condoms...' or whatever.

I could be wrong and hope I am, but you seem to be avoiding the Qs about contraception and I don't know why, but something comes to mind (ie maybe not with your DH?)

I feel you are holding stuff back especially about not wanting to see a dr or let anyone find out.

No, nothing like that, I can't get on with hormonal contraceptives, so we use condoms and have used withdrawal depending on time of the month. So yes, it's possible, but not a sure fire thing. Hence the confusion!

stop using withdrawal in your 40s. Your cycles may begin to be all over the place and it's not a good way to control fertility.

I conceived way outside of what I thought was a fertile phase for me ( very early in a cycle) and now have a 28 yr old DD. She was wanted but a surprise.

It's not that I'm holding back, I just don't want to cause a fuss with DH flapping about, or spending €50 for the GP which involves taking time off work, or a child with me asking questions..... only for Doc to say why didn't you go to the chemist for X Brand test.
That's it really.

Yup, LoudandClear, you're right.

Just buy a pregnancy test, there is no need to go to the Doctor just yet is there? You will find them in chemists ; supermarkets etc. They all test for the pregnancy hormone dont they?

I hope you get the result thats bes for you

TurnOffTheTv · 02/05/2019 15:29

But your period isn’t even late yet? Have I got that right?

Battie · 02/05/2019 15:32
Confused
PinkOboe · 02/05/2019 15:37

I'm here for the twist. what's the twist?

7Days · 02/05/2019 15:41

I've been having regular periods.
But lately I've been bloated and tired - ok, normal - and for the last few weeks I've been getting what feels like tiny fluttering kicks internally, with no other digestive issues.
So I put 2 and 2 together, and wondered could i possibly be a few months along, and asked about tests that can detect more advanced pregnancies.

Karigan195 · 02/05/2019 15:42

Entirely possible. I know someone who had periods up until 6 months pregnant! She didn’t know and using withdrawal method is hardly ‘safe’.

Think I’d be going to the dr. If you are pregnant you need to know how far along asap. If you aren’t you need an mot for your symptoms.

Btw i’m 41 and expecting in August due to being a little blasé about the whole contraceptive thing due to age. A very welcome surprise though :)

Congrats Karigan195

Am I the only person who didn't know that pregnancy tests don't work if you are too far along? How did that excape me?

Desmondo2016 · 02/05/2019 18:20

Because it's not really true lol

ABoozedMoose · 02/05/2019 19:21

Where's the twist?

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 02/05/2019 19:52

Christ just do a test!
(sorry)

Rangeloaf · 02/05/2019 20:10

Pregnancy tests do work all the way along.

People don’t bleed all the way through pregnancy - it’s a myth - people always claim they know someone who has but in reality it’s pretty impossible to have a full period when pregnant as a period is your womb emptying its lining.....

7Days · 02/05/2019 20:13

Lol ok I've been set straight about the hormone levels, I'll do the damn test alright!

Hopefully just nothing to worry about - thanks

Pregnancy tests do work all the way along

Phew, I was worried that I'd stupidly not known that they didn't and had been embarassing myself for years when talking about it

LarryGreysonsDoor · 02/05/2019 20:29

I’d heard that they don’t. But I guess that most people don’t bother retesting once they know they are pg so don’t know.

Nonibaloni · 02/05/2019 20:45

People do bleed all the way along Rangeloaf the dr I showed a bloody pad to acknowledged it was certainly a convincing period. With all the women in the world in all of history there’s scope for many different things.

OhioOhioOhio · 02/05/2019 21:15

squee123 has a very good point.

BertieBotts · 03/05/2019 07:10

It's because they usually work all along but in a significant minority of circumstances, they don't.

DesperadoDan · 03/05/2019 08:04

@ Rangeloaf I had a light bleed through most of my first pregnancy when my period was due. No bleeding at all during second pregnancy. It can and does happen.

BurnedToast · 03/05/2019 08:09

Just take a bloody test woman.
