Am I pregnant? With a twist!

7Days · 02/05/2019 12:08

Well, am I?
Am married, 40, not on hormonal contraception, periods gone a weird, but still regular.

For the past week or 2 am feeling with regularity tiny 'kicks' and 'rolls' along one side of my abdomen. Am not unusually gassy or anything. I have 3 kids already, for context, and it feels exactly like the first glitters.
Someone at work asked was I pg. Well my tummy has started to stick out a bit in front but I put it down to the wine and pizza.

I do feel fairly tired and had some horrendous anxiety attacks of late. Which to me are sparked by hormones.
But could also be the aforementioned wine and pizza. Or the peri. Or having 3 kids, a job, normal life stuff.

I do not want to freak out or tell anyone or make any sort of drama unless I have to. I just want to calmly and quietly poas - is there any stick for detecting a pregnancy of a few months rather than weeks?

I'm not in the UK, so GP visit will be €50, and I want privacy to consider my options, if any.

Hcg peaks at around 8-11 weeks but should still be high enough to detect till near end of pregnancy. If you are just feeling flutters now you shouldn't be so far along that levels have decreased too far. Pregnancy test first then doctors.

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 02/05/2019 13:37

Out of curiosity (& because I had an obsessively large collection of leftover HCG strip tests) I POAS at 7+ months pregnant and it came up with a BFP.

Get thee to a shop, OP!

ReganSomerset · 02/05/2019 13:38

I got a positive result at 7 or 8 months (I already knew, was just wondering if it would still show up on a test).

The bleach thing is bollocks, the hook effect is a bit of a myth - it is true but not for all women - most will get a BFP at any stage of pregnancy.

Phantom kicks and bloating can all be non-pregnant.

Toooldtocareanymore · 02/05/2019 13:53

seems to me if you get a test and it says pregnant you are, but to consider those options you refer to you're going to have to go to doc to find out how far along you are, if it says not you feel you can't trust results so you will have to go to gp if symptoms persist to find out if test correct and what's going on anyway, sounds more likely its a gut problem bloating etc maybe motilium would help, you could try if feeling go away then problem solved.

but incidentally I do think test work usually well into pregnancy I had a late miscarriage few years ago, it started slow and took a while and they decided I had to go for scan to see if other procedure would be necessary , when I was booking it they told me to get a few tests and do on in a day or so , and only come in when the test was showing negative- I took this to mean the test would show positive

yourestandingonmyneck · 02/05/2019 13:54

Well, ok, but bloating and intestinal rumblings, whilst combined with regular periods, wouldn't suggest pregnancy as the most likely reason to me.

But it's all irrelevant, you really just need to do a test / visit your GP.

MyCatHatesEverybody · 02/05/2019 13:59

I second what twitterqueen said, I was getting the little kicks and stuff like you describe but I knew for certain that I wasn't pregnant. I had a blood test which showed highly elevated CA125 and it turned out I had multiple uterine polyps.

Desmondo2016 · 02/05/2019 13:59

Am I missing the point? Why wouldnt you just do a home test?!! (Besides, you have to now because a ton of strangers on the internet need to know!!!)

BlondeBumshelll · 02/05/2019 14:04

Oh I hate these threads because I always want to know the outcome and a lot of the time never get to. So get to the shops and get a stick!

HollowTalk · 02/05/2019 14:07

I hate these threads, too, because the most obvious reply is always completely ignored.

JinglingHellsBells · 02/05/2019 14:08

@7days

This is slightly weird. What's missing from your posts are whether you had unprotected sex! Did you use contraception?

At this stage you could not feel a baby kicking, no way.

You;d also presumably have other symptoms along the way.

Why not buy a test?

7Days · 02/05/2019 14:08

Because I didn't think home tests worked past the first few weeks!
I was hoping for someone to say 'Here's a link for a test that works all the way through, so save your €50 and put your mind at ease.'
And then it would turn out I'm not pregnant, just need to ease up on the pizzas and snickers and wall will be well.
Hopefully, still to be!

How do you feel @7days if it turns out that you are pregnant?

JinglingHellsBells · 02/05/2019 14:11

So- are you or were you using contraception?

That's a crucial question! Hmm

If not, then go and buy a test.

cheesemongery · 02/05/2019 14:13

Do a test and even if you are not pregnant then get checked out. I had random 'kicks' when I had my first Mirena - exactly the same feeling, so much so I just thought - ah baby's kicking... then.. Shock

HollowTalk · 02/05/2019 14:13

Even if I doubted the test would work, I'd still take it because you can't have a false positive.

MindyStClaire · 02/05/2019 14:16

This is slightly weird. What's missing from your posts are whether you had unprotected sex! Did you use contraception?

Well presumably she's had sex or she wouldn't be asking. And we all know no contraception is 100%.

A friend of mine was TTC her second and when she did get pregnant it turned out she was much further along than she'd thought, presumably due to regular bleeds. It can happen.

Best of luck OP, POAS but definitely worth a visit to the GP regardless of the result. Flowers

Tinkobell · 02/05/2019 14:16

Mmm. My tea leaves are telling me it might just be a YES....also the dog just winked twice .....so that's another YES omen. Fgs, mother of 3 - go buy a test and congrats if it is a YES, otherwise agree with others re; swift GP appt. Good luck!

fleshmarketclose · 02/05/2019 14:19

If you are months into pregnancy there is a chance the test will show a false negative. My daughter had two negative tests a week apart and regular periods and went to GP at my insistence because of a pot belly. She found out she was 27 weeks pregnant. She is now 33 weeks pregnant and getting used to the idea.

squee123 · 02/05/2019 14:19

Sorry to be blunt? but regardless of the outcome of the test you need to see a doctor. Either because you're pregnant or to rule out some nasty diseases for which you appear to have a numbr of symptoms.

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 02/05/2019 14:21

Pregnancy tests look for the HcG hormone. You produce this hormone throughout the entire pregnancy so a test will work.

adaline · 02/05/2019 14:26

You're not really reading people's answers, are you?

Even if you're not pregnant you still need to get yourself to a doctor. Your symptoms could be pregnancy but they could also be something a lot worse.

newyearoldme · 02/05/2019 14:34

Could be appendicitis.
Disclaimer: not a doctor, so get yourself to one.

Seaweed42 · 02/05/2019 14:57

Do they not have cheap pregnancy tests in Poundland? Where is a pregnancy test £50? Tesco has 2 for £4 or something.
It's embarrassing when someone asks if you are pregnant when you are not.
With fat you can pinch the flab between your fingers. With bloating it is more round and smooth.

7Days · 02/05/2019 15:01

avacadorus I wouldn't be thrilled if I was pg to be honest.
I have 3 children, just all at school. It's nice having a bit of independence again. There's a promotion at work that I might go for, longer hours, harder work but more money and a step up. Dh is more established at his job so doesn t need to be chasing his tail as much, and could take over a bit at home and allow me to chase mine!
I had PND, specially severe with one child, and long lasting birth injuries with another.
Even for that reason alone DH doesn t want another.
DPs are getting on a bit.
Im still on Sertraline, plus I've been drinking a fair amount since Christmas and I'd be afraid of the effect on a developing foetus.

In saying that it would be better than some if the alternatives!

Ok, so now I know an ordinary pg test will give me some sort of answer, I'll start there.
Then suck up the money and go to the GP, just in case. Fingers crossed everybody that it's just a baffling Peri!
