Is this unfair or do I suck it up? (Work related)

I returned off work from maternity leave last April, I put in a verbal flexible working request for Friday-Monday, they said no.
I put in an official request (letter) to work Monday-Thursday and they agreed. Everything was going well.
Last month we got a new manager.

Background of job - targeted sales in a retail environment open 7 days a week. (busy on Friday-Monday)
New manager does first monthly review and I do not hit targets last month. Have warning that if it's continues next month formal action will be taken.
Ok I understand this but my targets are the same as people who work 5 days but pro -rata for my 4 days. This doesn't take into account I work weekdays and they are contracted to every weekend so see more people, hence meet more targets.
Foot fall is 60% higher on a Saturday and Sunday.
Is it unfair that they aren't taking into account that the weekends are busier than the days I work and threatening to end my contract if I don't hit these targets?
When my old manager was here, my targets where adjusted.
What would you do in this situation? I just just said ok this time as didn't want to make a fuss but I feel like this is really unfair!

Are you the only one that works week days only?

hidinginthenightgarden · 01/05/2019 19:46

You need to email your manager and say what you have written here.
If you are the only one not working weekends then it is unfair to expect you to hit the same target yes.

Acidrain · 01/05/2019 19:50

Yes I am the only one that works weekdays only - hate to say this but I am also the only female and the maternity pay has just gone up to 20 weeks paid. (Don't think that has anything to do with it though.)
I understand that they are pro rata targets which would be great if they accepted my offer to work Friday-Monday.
They didn't though and my old manager reduced it to 70% but this manager expects 90%.

I think you should tell your manager this, sometimes they can just be receiving pressure from higher up.
My work used to ask me to do six consultations a day, they took an hour each and I only worked four hours a day. I pointed out this wasn't possible in an email and they backed off straight away. Put it in writing though Smile

Maybe83 · 01/05/2019 19:57

Put it I writing and ask the manager in writing why your targets have been moved.

Were you told before that they were increasing them?

Acidrain · 01/05/2019 19:59

I will put it in writing. I'm just feeling a little crap about it.
My optional services targets where outstanding but my business targets where outside the %.

Nope just told today in review I wasn't performing to company standards of 90%.
I explained that it's a lot quieter through the week so it was harder for me against the full time staff and he just shrugged and said formal action would be followed if it wasnt improved.

But surely that was the point in the conversation where you said that your targets had been adjusted to 70% and (hopefully) you were meeting them.

You need to make a record of all conversations from now on (and previous ones with old boss) in case they are trying to manage you out.

Acidrain · 01/05/2019 20:10

Well that's what the understanding of it is, that they are trying to manage me out the business.
Yes I was meeting the previous adjusted targets just not the company average. How would I make a record of conversations with my old boss now he has left the business?

OP posts:
WallisFrizz · 01/05/2019 20:18

I just mean make your own notes about it in case it goes to disciplinary action. If you have contact details for your old boss, email him and get him to confirm that he changed your targets and why.

But what I meant from my previous comment was that it is not obvious from what you are saying that you or anybody else has actually told the new bloke that your targets were changed. Have you?

Acidrain · 01/05/2019 20:22

My old boss done a handover on the weekend (I wasn't there) so don't know what was said then, I mentioned when it came up that I used to work to a different % as it was quieter through the week.
I will have a chat and explicitly say it to him and make notes.
Sorry, I'm only in mid twenties so not had much experience at something like this.

90% is not pro rata

80% is pro rata

Acidrain · 01/05/2019 20:28

Romax
It's called share of business so it's the business you take Vs days worked = share of business % against colleges.
So 90% is the company average, my old boss said mine would be 70% due to reduced footfall on weekdays, new manager expects 90%.

Do you have anything in writing?

Acidrain · 02/05/2019 08:40

I have old reviews but nothing that expressly says its lower.
Ive never thought of having anything in writing.

I have just checked the company policy, it states you have to be at 90% at comparable attendance.
Is working Monday - Thursday classes as comparable attendance to working weekends and 3 weekdays?
