My lodger from an EU country and the electoral register

Hi

I have a new lodger and have to tell the council as I get the single person’s discount at the moment.

My lodger is from an EU country - will the electoral registry people want her to register? She works freelance from home and for a company in her home country, and has nothing admin wise here - bank account or utility bills.

Also, since she is from the EU, what does she need to fill in to stay here after the UK “brexits” (🙄). Sorry, I should know this.

She is not even sure how long she wants to stay Confused.

Thanks a lot Smile.

Hi - just bumping in case anyone has experience of this.

Her immigration status is her own look out. I think she can apply for "settled status" once she has been here five years but that is really nothing to do with you.

You will need to fill out the electoral roll when the form comes round. If she wants to vote in the Euro elections coming up she will need to register herself as the form has already been and gone.

Okay thank you - does this mean that if and when Brexit does happen she might in theory have to leave?

Also - things like registering with a GP, does she need proof of address? Because there would be nothing with her name on it.

She really doesn’t know at this point how long she wants to stay.

Are you sure she's from the EU? What's the purpose of her stay in the UK? Can she not open a basic bank account so that she has got some document with her name and address on it?
