Holy fuck, unless you have some mahoosive standing charge or a leak that's mental! Get a meter! You can change your mind if it doesn't work out cheaper in 2 years.

My bill is £26 per month - water co couldn't find my pipe to put a meter in so am on a special rate. Me and 2 teens, average semi.

It can’t be estimated unless you already have the meter. It will a fixed payment charge which is based on house. If you have a meter you will get billed for use of water. No estimates. We are in a compulsory area and the water company put a meter on the pipe on the boundary of the property- so need to be at home. We are currently still paying the fixed payment charge and next year we will be on meter charge. They are still taking readings and if it is cheaper I can switch sooner and if not I can financially plan.

Yeah it says my charges are calculated using the rateable value of the house.
It says if I have a small family I could benefit from having a water meter installed.
How much should water fit 2 people cost?! Surely it’s less than £1150?!

15-22 per month on a meter I reckon!

Tara336 · 01/05/2019 19:31

I had a water meter fitted and my bills dropped considerably, they also refunded my “overpayments” as they listed back to the recordings of my calls where I explained it was a second home, only I would be using it etc

4 in our house. We all have showers every day plus washer dishwasher etc. £800 per year on a meter

paddler78 · 01/05/2019 19:41

Around £700 for us - family of 4 on meter, not wasteful but not frugal with water either

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/05/2019 19:49

£20 a month for dh an I. I use a dishwasher as it’s less than washing up but dh has a full bath every night.

chandylier · 02/05/2019 20:23

So I completed a new user application and it asked me how many people were in the house. I’ll see if the estimated bill changes on the back of that, if not I’ll ask for a meter

Usually when you move house you are forced into a meter anyway...

Frightenedbunny · 02/05/2019 21:11

We are a family of 6, usually have 4 showers and a bath each day plus one dishwasher load and one washing machine run. We pay around £600 a year. Prior to this we paid on rateable value which was around £750 so we have actually saved. This has really surprised me!
