...and specifically how low level male violence seems to be accepted and accepted in society. I was listening to an interview with Bob Hoskins daughter, for example and she told a funny anecdote about how a kitchen clock had fallen on his head while he was on the phone to his agent and he dropped the phone- ranted and swore and shouted- then picked the phone up and carried on. And she said “He was a lovely lovely man- but there was always a layer of don’t fuck with me” and that was being treated as a positive thing.
Look at the way teenage boys shove each other around and call each other vile names and that’s just how boys are. (NABALT- mine isn’t, but you get my point). I just wonder why we accept this stuff- there are loads of other examples. If Bob Hoskins has been a woman, her agent probably wouldn’t have put her forward for another job!
