Why do I suddenly crave salt?

I've always had a savoury tooth and liked things like cheese over cake, for example. But recently I've noticed I'm actually craving salt - Maldon sea salt sprinkled on cherry tomatoes or just on it's own! What's wrong with me - this is a new development.

Could it be that I'm moving towards a vegetarian diet? I'm a healthy eater: I rarely have processed food and do include enough veggie protein (I think) in my diet. Plus I occasionally still have the odd bit of meat, so I guess it's unlikely to be my diet. Any ideas? I have a normal BMI, in case that's relevant.

Yyou're probably low on sodium. I'm a firm believer that we crave foods which contain trace elements we're lacking or getting low on.

Pregnant?

One of my first symptoms each time was a desperate craving for ready salted crisps.

I was going to say pregnant. It’s the only time I’ve properly craved salty things. Crisps saved me in the first 3 months.

Same as Squiff, I believe you’re body will be lacking in it so will crave it.

I have ‘lower side of normal’ blood pressure. I always crave salt and I think it keeps my BP at a normal level, compared to it being low. I go with it as and when I get waves of cravings for it.

Is your BP ok? Something to check too perhaps.

Sodium deficiency definitely I agree.

Def not pregnant! Interestingly, I do have quite low blood sugar - it could well be that!
