Fairly trivial road tax question

Just coughed up for road tax. The Tax reminder I received said it would be £290, but when I paid online it demanded £300. As my tax is about to expire I wasn't in a position to query it, and for £10 it may not be worth pursuing anyway.

However, has anyone else come across this, or does anyone know why the price has changed? Have I missed a road tax rise or something? Are they punishing me for leaving it to (close to) the last minute????

They always put car tax up in April and October. At the bottom of your reminder in red letters it says they can increase the price.

It will probably be because of the Spring Budget. We had to renew the tax on a motor bike at the end of March and I’m sure it said on the reminder form at prices may change due to the Spring Budget. It could be because reminders for April renewals were also printed before the budget.

It's odd though - I double checked through the Gov.UK Vehicle tax calculator - www.gov.uk/calculate-vehicle-tax-rates - and it also said I should be paying £290. But maybe they haven't revised that?

Actually, cancel all that - on checking this year's budget I see they did put car tax up. Sad

So definitely one for me to suck up.
