We're merging some sections into the Chat area

Hi all,
We’re doing some work on making the Talk boards more useful and user-friendly for both regular and new users. After looking at some stats for the site, we think we could boost activity on the whole by merging some of the lesser used sections.

We’re proposing to fold this section into the general Chat area.

This should increase the number of topics in the section - and hopefully lead to more posts and responses to members.

@MichaelMumsnet

Wouid you consider putting a thread in Site Issues (and maybe stickying it for a while) so people can see what's going on?

No-one is likely to see posts made in quieter topics that were made at peak 'coming home from school time'

And it might lead to constructive comments (others for the cull or Ines to save by popular acclaim)

Hi AuntieStella,
Yes, that's a good idea. However, we've just started this project and initially, we'd like to get feedback directly from people who are using the sections. That's why I'm posting all over the place : )

IMHO sleb twaddle should be corralled into its own topic, just like the royals. They could share, couldn't they?

TBH if the moderation of AIBU was stricter (in terms of stuff that's not AIBU being moved out) it would breathe life into many other areas of MN. AIBU is great for traffic, I'm sure, but bad for the spirit of MN

I think it is wrong to get rid of the Royal Family section

And when there's a major Royal event, you really should be moving threads there, like you do for certain other themes.

And I have my ideas of which topics should be in the Round One cull - but there isn't really anywhere to put them

Also I'd like to know which topics are being culled, and the only way to for us to know is to schlepp through everything. Pity.

"However, we've just started this project and initially, we'd like to get feedback directly from people who are using the sections"

You could make the list a series of links to the threads, and ask for comments to be put there. OK, people won't comply perfectly, but does that matter? Isn't it better that people know what's going on?

I think it should be left as it is.
