Off sick today, need to tell work this afternoon whether I'll be in tomorrow... normal?

Phoned work this morning to let them know I wouldn't be in today, I've been asked to call before the end of the day to let them know if I'll be back tomorrow.

The problem is... how will I know?! I feel rubbish now, but if I have a good night sleep I may be fine for tomorrow.

We quite often have to do this as it helps to plan business needs tomorrow and depending on your job whether they need to get cover staff in for the next day

We have to. I sometimes feel better in the afternoon as i’ve eaten and the painkillers have kicked. Therefore I know I can work the following day by doping myself up.

BlueSkiesLies · 30/04/2019 17:32

Quite normal - easier to organise shift cover the day before

Tink1990 · 30/04/2019 17:59

I have to do this and i hate it. With my role there is noone able to cover anyway so even more annoying!

Tink1990 · 30/04/2019 18:00

Sorry, not very helpful as I have no idea if its normal!

OldUnit · 30/04/2019 18:04

Yes quite normal to give an indication of the length of absence & return to work.

OldUnit · 30/04/2019 18:08

Is this giving you anxiety OP?

I worked for a firm that had this policy. I felt very stressed at having to ring every afternoon to say I would not be in the next day.

I had middle ear infection and was signed off for a week. Even so I was told to ring each day. I told my manager I would ring after my sick note expired but he said this was not acceptable and that I still had to ring daily.

I hated that company!

Sorry, forgot I started this thread Blush

Thank you for the replies.

I called at 5pm and said I anticipated being in tomorrow.

I don't feel great but am hopeful I'll be up to work tomorrow if I've had a good night sleep.

We have to call in by mid afternoon to let the office know whether we will be returning to work the following morning.
If we have a doctor's note, we don't have to call in until it expires.
Much easier for them to arrange cover if they know about it the day before.
