Are you going to vote in the Euro elections?

I’m working in a polling station and am wondering how busy it will be. Usually it’s the quietest of all the elections (in my little polling place, General/Scottish are the busiest, then local, then Euros). I feel I may need more books and food to keep me entertained this time. It’s a very long day!!!

Yes, definitely. I suspect a lot of people who might not normally have voted will be registering a protest vote, so you may be busier than expected

IndigoSpritz · 29/04/2019 17:37

I usually vote in all elections; we have council elections here this Thursday too. Is the UK still going to be in the EU by the time of the European elections ?

Macaroonmayhem · 29/04/2019 17:42

Euro elections are scheduled for 3 weeks on Thursday Indigo but will not happen if we Brexit before then. We got our polling cards today (Scotland) but yours might be held back til after this Thurs to avoid confusion.

Rumboogie I agree, I think it might be really busy! Which makes for a better day for me tbh, the day of the Scottish Indyref went by in flash, queues at 7am and busy right up til the close. Hardly had time to eat or drink!

Yes I will definitely vote. I think it is important to indicate my views about Europe.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 29/04/2019 18:09

Yes - I'll vote Green (unusual for me) as a remain vote.

KnobOfStork · 29/04/2019 18:33

Yes but I need to read up about it. I've never been aware of EU elections before but the last one was probably before I was eligible to vote anyway. I think there'll be a decent turnout at least from remain voters but the only leave voters I know well enough to discuss politics with abstain from voting usually, and are against the election anyway, so I'm not quite sure how it'll all pan out. It seems like a second referendum in all but name at this point.

AnnaDine · 29/04/2019 18:35

Yes - I work overseas atm and I’ve just paid £650 to fly back to the U.K. for two days! Will vote labour if they support a second referendum - otherwise whoever offers the best ‘remain’ vote (but not under any circumstances the liberals!) - so the Change party or the Greens (assuming they are remain!).

T1nah · 29/04/2019 18:37

Yes. I've sent my email address and postcode to a site which will advise how to vote in your area to get a remain candidate to win (in theory!)

Portillista · 29/04/2019 18:37

I will be voting, and I will (despite my username) be voting for any candidate other than a Labour one who wants to remain in the EU/supports a second referendum.

Portillista · 29/04/2019 18:38

Bah - should proof-read. Should have written "any candidate - other than a Labour one - who (etc)"

AutumnCrow · 29/04/2019 18:38

Yes.

megletthesecond · 29/04/2019 18:40

Yes. I always vote.

TowelNumber42 · 29/04/2019 18:40

Yes, and I'm treating it like another referendum. Mind you, I always vote, even for police commissioners where there's about a 0.0000000001% voter turn out.

RedCrab · 29/04/2019 19:04

Ooh @T1nah could you share that website please?

Portillista · 29/04/2019 19:05

I second Redcrab's request, @T1nah !

nagynolonger · 29/04/2019 19:07

Never missed a vote. I've never got the person or the cause I voted for either. Maybe this time! Getting the sitting Tory councilors out would be a start. They have cocked up massively locally this time. That combined with not delivering Brexit must mean they are out. Chances are they will still dominate our local council though because not all seats are contested.

BackforGood · 29/04/2019 19:17

I always vote, but we haven't had any information through - just our polling cards.

Greensleeves · 29/04/2019 19:18

Yes, I always vote.

Macaroonmayhem · 29/04/2019 19:28

Good, sounds like a busy day in store for us. I hope so. I always vote, so get really frustrated with low turnouts.

RomanyQueen1 · 29/04/2019 19:30

No, nobody I know is, or they are saying they're not.

Watto1 · 29/04/2019 19:33

I also work in the polling station. I’ll be very surprised if it was busy. At the last European elections we had 26 people all day. I’m taking a book, a puzzle book , fully charged tablet ,fully charged phone and chargers. Plus the obligatory carrier bag full of snacks of course!

Kittywampus · 29/04/2019 19:35

I will vote, but I always do. Not completely sure who I will vote for, probably the greens, but I may vote tactically to keep the tories (and ukip) out

ZenNudist · 29/04/2019 19:36

Im going to and i never vote in EU elections. Voting remain so lib dem or change UK.

Holidayshopping · 29/04/2019 19:38

Yes. I've sent my email address and postcode to a site which will advise how to vote in your area to get a remain candidate to win (in theory!)

Can you please share this? By PM if you’d rather?!

Macaroonmayhem · 29/04/2019 19:41

watto 26!! We always get through at least one ‘book’ of ballot papers so at least 100. And yes to the big bag of food. My “polling station picnic” is getting to be the stuff of legend, I always totally over-cater for myself and it’s 90% absolute junk. I think it’s the fear of running out! At my previous polling station the caretaker made us cream and jam scones and someone’s husband did a chip shop run after the evening rush! Sadly they reduces the number of boxes there so I’m in a solo one now so no more fish suppers for me😂
